    This unit has responsibility for the value chain from discovery through to late-stage development, enabling rapid acceleration of promising early-stage assets and life-cycle management programs


    The Translational Medicine function exists within Haematology R&D to ensure effective and strategic biomarker studies for Haematology & Oncology project teams.

    Closely interacting with the pre-clinical Discovery, Early Clinical Development, and Precision Medicine & Biosamples diagnostics functions, Haematology Translational Medicine team is the single point of accountability for delivery of robust, scientifically-driven biomarkers to all Haematology project teams, providing feasibility assessments, technical validation, centralized biomarker analysis capability for clinical samples, delivery of translational science research and early clinical phase engagement.


    Functioning within the Early Oncology Genomics Team, the Haematology Translational Genomics scientists leverages Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to contribute to translational oncology efforts.

    The successful candidate will handle large cohorts of patient samples, generate high-quality genomic data on Illumina sequencers, perform basic QC and data analysis, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards while keeping precise laboratory records.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities


    • Perform NGS assays platforms on patient samples to support clinical trial exploratory endpoints
    • Documentation of sample chain of custody and experimental work in Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) to ensure compliance with AstraZeneca regulatory standards
    • Follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) for established processes
    • Perform DNA and RNA extractions on a variety of tissues including Formalin Fixed, Paraffin Embedded tissue, Fresh Frozen Tissue, Plasma and Blood
    • Perform a variety of library preparation techniques including Whole Genome, Exome, Targeted Gene Panels, Methylome and Whole Transcriptome and associated barcoding strategies/methodologies.
    • Perform sequencing on an Illumina NovaSeq X Plus instrument
    • Work with informatics partners to QC and deliver sequencing data and assist bioinformaticians for data interpretation
    • Operate automation platforms including ThermoFisher KingFisher Flex instruments and Beckman Coulter Liquid Handlers
    Minimum Requirements


    • Ph.
    D. degree or Master's plus 2+ years experience with a degree in a relevant field

    • At least 2-3 years of experience with NGS Sequencing is essential
    • Experience with nucleic acid extractions and library preparation
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis and interpretation
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
    • Ability to follow laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities
    • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
    • Experience in working within a CLIA, CAP regulated laboratory is desirable
    • Demonstrable knowledge of hematologic malignancies, including mutational drivers, experience with patient sample types current treatment options, and mechanisms of resistance is desirable
    Preferred experience


    • Experience with single cell or spatial sequencing.
