    Mechanical Estimator

    Department: Estimating

    Employment Type: Full Time

    Location: Great Neck

    Workplace type: Onsite

    Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 / year

    Reporting To: Chief Estimator


    Final compensation will be based on a combination of:

    • Relevant work experience
    • Education
    • Project size
    • Project location
    • Required working hours
    • Candidate subject matter expertise and/or specialty
    • Ability to be approved by agencies/owners as required
    • *Final salary determination is negotiable*


    The Estimator is responsible for working both independently and collaboratively (with executive management and project teams) to estimate project costs for firm fixed-price bids, proposals and change orders. The Estimator's job is to leverage field experience, industry knowledge and solid analytical skills to prepare accurate quantity take-offs. Fundamental to this role is the ability to make sound assumptions and identify gaps in construction documents.

    Responsibilities

    • Track bid advertisements.
    • Review and handle bid documents.
    • Maintain logs.
    • Develop data bases and directories.
    • Attend Walk-Thru to check field conditions & prepare estimates.
    • Assist in maintaining project sub bidders contact list.
    • Review Drawings, Specifications and Addendums.
    • Perform detailed project cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades.
    • Estimate labor and material costs by soliciting quotes.
    • Receive, analyze, and complete bid comparisons.
    • Participate in bid analysis, prepare final bids and requests for proposals.
    • Qualify and level subcontractors' proposals according to project specifications.
    • Communicate with owners, engineers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
    • Assist in setting up and getting projects started where we are the low bidder.
    • Coordinate administrative staff in sending documents to vendors.
    • Interact with clients, architects, engineers and Local Jurisdictions to understand and incorporate project objectives, schedules, permits, costs, etc.
    • Assist with plan development, plan execution and continual compliance.
    • Perform other duties assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Approximately 3 years of experience in estimating.
    • Strong verbal and written communication.
    • Proficiency in basic engineering computations and analysis.
    • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering drawings.
    • Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
    • Experience with estimating software.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize.
    • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and computer skills.
    • Knowledge of CMiC software is a plus.
    • Must be safety oriented.

    Education:

    • College degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other related field (or equivalent years' experience).
    • Experience within Quotesoft estimating software is a plus.
