    General Description and Qualifications

    Position is part-time with a maximum of 28 hours per week.

    The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and day-to-day maintenance of City buildings and facilities. The Custodian is under the supervision of the Facility Maintenance Coordinator.

    Essential Functions of the Position

    The following duties, responsibilities and tasks are performed on a continuing basis, unless otherwise noted:

    Perform basic cleaning procedures including, but not limited to, trash removal, cleaning waste receptacles, wall and interior window washing, furniture cleaning, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and replacing paper supplies.

    Coordinate various professional services, such as major carpet cleaning or facilities maintenance, with the agency via the chain of command.

    Perform cleaning of offices, meeting rooms, lobby areas, hallways, break rooms, and stairways.

    Perform complex cleaning procedures including stripping, sealing, waxing, and buffing vinyl tile surfaces in accordance with the manufacture's recommendations.

    Perform various levels of carpet cleaning in accordance with the manufacture's recommendations.

    Operate power cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor, floor buffing machine and power washer.

    Perform minor maintenance duties including replacing light bulbs and touch-up painting.

    Maintain a written inventory of cleaning and paper supplies; submit supply requests in a timely manner.

    Assist in moving furniture, loading and unloading of freight up to 50 pounds alone and 100 pounds assisted.

    Attend work on a regular and predictable basis.

    The employee: works with heavy cleaning equipment; works around motorized equipment; is exposed to environmental conditions, exposed to possible injury from extremely noisy conditions above 85 db; exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, air contaminants; is exposed to wet walking surfaces; works in inclement weather conditions (e.g., snow, sleet, rain, etc.); is exposed to dirt, dust, and odor; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines may occasionally be exposed to other hazardous or physically demanding working conditions experienced by divisional personnel; employee may exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered heavy work.

    Minimum Acceptable Characteristics, Licensure and/or Certification

    High school education or equivalent.

    Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.

    Has the ability to work a flexible schedule; such as evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

    Ability to relate well with the public and co-workers and to project a professional image.

    Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning operations.

    Physical ability to operate power cleaning equipment.

    Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.

    Ability to take responsibility for building cleanliness and to work independently.

    Knowledge of occupational hazards and precautions.

    Ability to pass a background check.

    Have access to personal transportation.

    Ability to adjust work hours to accommodate agency needs.
