- Ensure that all system platforms are functional and secure, implementing measures to mitigate security risks and vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with upper management to determine the acceptable level of risk for enterprise computing platforms, balancing security requirements with operational needs.
- Conduct risk assessments and security evaluations of system platforms, identifying potential threats and recommending appropriate countermeasures.
- Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and guidelines to safeguard IT assets and data against unauthorized access, disclosure, and modification.
- Stay informed about emerging threats and vulnerabilities in the cybersecurity landscape, proactively researching and implementing solutions to address evolving security risks.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to IT teams and stakeholders on security best practices, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security requirements into system design, development, and implementation processes.
- Lead and direct the work of other security professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
- Work under general supervision, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, while demonstrating a wide degree of creativity and latitude in problem-solving.
- Report to a manager or head of a unit/department, providing regular updates on security initiatives, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in information security, computer science, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in IT security, preferably in a federal agency setting.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies, with expertise in risk management, vulnerability assessment, and security architecture.
- Experience with security assessment tools and techniques, including penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and security incident response.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements, such as NIST, FISMA, HIPAA, and GDPR.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex security issues and develop effective solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior management, technical teams, and stakeholders.
- Ability to lead and direct the work of others, providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in a leadership role in IT security is highly desirable.
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
