    Electrician Helper

    Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair is currently seeking electrician helpers for our Galveston shipyard.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Perform semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment

    2. Assists with performing electrical repair and maintenance such as assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures for ships, barges, equipment and facilities.

    3. Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work site by hand, hand truck, or heavy, motorized truck.

    4. Preparation of area work area. May be requested to break up concrete, walls, flooring to facilitate installation, or repair of equipment and/or for installation of conduit or supports.

    5. Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools.

    6. Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings, using hand and power tools.

    7. Strip insulation from wire ends, using wire stripping pliers, and attach wires to terminals for subsequent soldering.

    8. String transmission lines or cables through ducts or conduits, under the ground, through equipment, or to towers. Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and secure conduit support brackets.

    9. Paint a variety of objects related to electrical functions.

    10. Clean work area and wash parts.

    11. Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order. May assist in requisitioning materials.

    12. May trace out short circuits in wiring, using test meter.

    Required Education & Experience:

    1. Minimum of High school graduate or G.E.D. preferred.

    2. Within one year of experience/knowledge of electrical circuitry. Industrial and/or marine Electrical experience preferred.

    3. Maintain current Apprentice Electrician's license to meet governmental regulations (if applicable).

    Working Conditions:

    1. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.

    2. Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights while wearing fall prevention equipment.

    3. Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.

    4. Aboard ships, both on and offshore as well as confined spaces.

    5. Must be able to stand and operate equipment up to four continuous hours.

    6. The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.

    Necessary Equipment Operation:

    1. Operation of volt/ohm meter, amp meter, megger, and voltage recorder.

    2. Various hand and power tools.

    3. Forklift

    4. Manlift

    Special Skills:

    1. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and technical manuals (i.e.: electrical schematics.) preferred.

    2. Perform basic mathematical functions.

    3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    4. High performance and a strong team player.

    5. Capability to coordinate work with supervisors, and other foreman.

    6. Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.

    7. Commitment to company values and safety program.
