    POSITION: Court Facilitator

    SALARY: $23.63-$31.93, per hour DOE

    REPORTS TO: Chief Judge

    LOCATION: Tribal Court; Nespelem, Washington

    Basic Functions: The Court Facilitator reports to the Chief Judge and supports the court process by assisting persons representing themselves in unlawful detainer, guardianships, divorce, and other civil and family law matters. The Court Facilitator will assist people in the completion, filing, and service of court forms. Under discretion of the Chief Judge, the Court Facilitator will develop forms and instruction packets to help improve access to justice for participants in the civil side of the Colville Tribal Court.

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education and Training:

  • Preferred: BA or advanced degree in a field related to this position OR an AA degree with a minimum of three (3) years' work experience in a court system.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Special Conditions:

  • Must never have had a felony conviction, including conviction in any tribal court that would be treated as a felony if the offense has been tried in a state or federal court.
  • Must be able to demonstrate, through the interview process, and through at least three letters of recommendation, integrity and judicial temperament.
  • Must never had no misdemeanor convictions in the past five (5) years.
  • Must reside on or near the Colville reservation or willing to relocate.
  • Must be over the age of 21 years of age.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires working knowledge of general court procedures is imperative and preference will be given to participants with knowledge of the Colville Tribal Court and/or the Colville Tribal Code.
  • Requires a good understanding and knowledge of the traditions and culture of the Colville Tribes. Requires demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of courtroom procedures and the willingness to follow Colville Tribal Court Policies and Procedures.
  • Requires excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be punctual and have ability to work in a high stress environment.
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Requires the ability to deal with public and staff in a positive manner.
  • Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the position.
  • Requires demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Requires the ability to understand and apply available guidelines to varied operational requirement and to follow clearly stated oral and written instructions.
  • Requires the ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal documents, tribal laws and regulations.
  • Requires ability to effectively to present information and respond to question from management and the general public.
  • Requires ability to establish priorities in completing assigned workload and to work with little or no supervision at time.
  • Must be able to maintain respectful communication with court staff and the community.
  • Requires ability to maintain utmost confidentiality.
  • Requires ability to follow through on all assignments.
  • Requires ability to demonstrate incumbent being of high moral character.
  • Must be able to function indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature.
  • Requires ambulatory ability to sit for extended periods of time, to utilize microcomputers and peripheral equipment, and to move about various campus locations.
  • Requires the ability to use near vision to read printed materials.
  • Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone.
  • Requires the ability to retrieve work materials from overhead, waist, and ground level files.
  • Requires sustained repetitive motions and manual and finger dexterity to write, use a pointing device, keyboard at an acceptable, operate microcomputer, and operate other office equipment
