    The HSE Specialist III role is a member of the Air Liquide North America (NAM) HSE support services group.

    This role proactively demonstrates HSE technical and management system competencies that bring value to the organization by proactively recommending and assisting sites with pragmatic HSE solutions.

    The scope of the HSE Specialist III is a remote field role and includes assigned NAM BU field operations advising and supporting site and regional management on HSE service support activities, audits, compliance requirements, accident investigations, and solutions.

    This role is the primary HSE point of contact for external agencies.


    This position will be based in Baton Rouge (Candidates must be willing to live in the LA area) and is a hybrid role with home office and support to our Mississippi Pipeline area plants (Baton Rouge to New Orleans).

    Travel is expected to be 50%, with majority travel being in the Mississippi river area.

    Provides support of HSE activities to location(s) and acts as a liaison between HSE other functional areas and business operation stakeholders.

    Obtains assistance and support for field locations from other Air Liquide HSE personnel and/or other Air Liquide support services.
    Responds and provides direct HSE assistance to sites in emergency situations.
    Participates in MOC review, HAZOP, and FMEAs for processes and products as required.
    Act as the technical HSE focal point for local Emergency Action Plans and Hazard Communication Programs.
    Mentors and develops site safety champions.
    Represents Air Liquide during agency inspections, including but not limited to EPA, OSHA, fire department, and county.
    External customer (commercial or regulatory) contact is an expected part of the role.
    Understands customer requirements and can address moderately complex requests independently.
    Provides HSE support during plant turn-around and start-up projects
    Facilitates and assists with root cause analysis using industry standard methodologies.

    Develops and articulately communicates business cases for proposals and recommendations using data and validated information.
    Analyze EHS data and report trends. Recommend plans for correction of gaps.
    Interprets and provides direction and options for pragmatic application of HSE procedural, technical, and regulatory requirements.
    Evaluates alternative HSE solutions to problems, considers different perspectives and recommends the best path forward.
    Conducts HSE assessments and audits.
    Manages self, time, priorities, and schedule to accomplish goals and objectives.
    Forms, leads, and actively participates in teams and efforts to achieve HSE department goals with impact.
    Thinks critically and influences others to foster shared HSE ownership.
    Creates a positive impression in communicating with stakeholders. Employs effective techniques to make key points, tightly and coherently.
    Share opinions in a straightforward respectful manner, even when it is difficult or unpopular. Adapts communication style to different situations and audiences.

    Performs contractor safety management pre-work reviews, site contractor work overview, and post contractor work assessments.
    Provides technical and mentor assistance with peer HSE Specialists.
    Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to ensure safety, health, and environmental requirements are met.
    Fosters relationships with operational and support services stakeholders for HSE systems interface and deployment.
    Actively seeks continuous improvement projects and utilizes continuous improvement methodologies / tools to develop solutions.
    Consistently evaluates HSE processes in alignment with strategic objectives to identify waste and continuous improvement opportunities.
    Contributes and co-authors HSE standards.


    Required Qualifications And Competencies:
    Bachelor's degree in HSE or STEM discipline required.
    Advanced understanding with application of compliance standards; Advanced understanding with application of risk assessment methodologies and tools.
    Confined space entry; Energy isolation; Fall protection; Process safety experience.
    Certifications in field of expertise preferred (CSP, CIH, OHST, REM, REP, etc)
    Prefer 4+ years HSE operations experience working in industrial gas, energy, manufacturing, or construction operations. Advanced degree may be substituted for experience.
    On-site time and/or travel is expected to be 50%, with majority travel being in the Mississippi river area.
    Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.
