    Beautician

    General Description:

    Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Beautician/Barber is responsible for providing direct personal hair care and grooming to male and female residents of the Facility.

    Essential Duties:

    1. Schedules hair appointments for residents.

    2. Shampoos and styles hair for residents with diverse ethnic backgrounds by setting, blow-drying, cutting, trimming and/or braiding; may perform beauty services such as applying solutions that straighten hair or retains curl or wave in hair; may provide color rinses and permanent hair coloring.

    3. Performs services in the beauty/barber shop and on nursing units and in beds for residents unable to be taken to the beauty/barber shop.

    4. Maintains the beauty/barber shop and equipment in a sanitary, neat and orderly manner.

    5. Orders supplies and maintains inventory of products in the beauty/barber shop.

    6. Adheres to confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data; HIPAA regulations; Quality Assurance requirements and compliance with regulatory requirements.

    7. Immediately reports incidents of alleged resident abuse or neglect or alleged violations of residents' rights to Supervisor or Executive Director.

    8. Maintains current practice standards or changes by participating in educational opportunities provided by the Facility and outside resources.

    9. Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.

    10. Performs other work duties as assigned.


    Education/Training/Experience: Must maintain a current license/certification, according to State law. One year of experience as a beautician/barber, preferably in a long-term care facility, working with diverse clientele.


    Skill(s): Must possess proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills; decision-making skills, basic computer skills; and be able to operate various medical and/or office equipment. Must demonstrate knowledge of safety techniques. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required.
