    Overview Join the HJF Team HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in the newly-opened laboratory of Dr. Jordan VerPlank in the department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The general focus of the laboratory is protein breakdown by the Ubiquitin Proteasome System.

    This position will contribute to our goal of identifying new mechanisms to accelerate protein degradation and translating these findings into new therapies for hereditary peripheral neuropathies.

    The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Responsibilities HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow is Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development. Responsibilities Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and/or development. Responsible for carrying out research projects in collaboration with research team. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures. Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments. Trains graduate students in laboratory techniques and processes, as needed. Assists with the preparation of data for publication in journals, and present at local, national, and/or international conferences. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Possess the ability to obtain and maintain a T1/CAC/Public Trust clearance.


    Physical Capabilities Lifting:
    Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs. Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

    Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of appropriate scientific area; ability to analyze and interpret data Work Environment This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

    Education and Experience Doctoral degree Minimum of 0-5 years experience required. All HJF employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination or an approved religious or medical accommodation will be required.
