Summary/Objective
The Juvenile Supervision Officer at Smith County Juvenile Detention Center is accountable for caring and overseeing the juveniles in their custody. This role demands respectful interaction with juveniles even in challenging situations. The Juvenile Supervision Officer must juggle multiple responsibilities while prioritizing security operations.
Pre-Employment Requirements
To qualify as a Juvenile Supervision Officer in Texas, applicants must meet the minimum standards set by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). These include being a U.S. citizen, having a high school diploma or G.E.D., and meeting certain legal criteria regarding criminal history and driving license.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Foster a respectful environment
- Conduct security rounds at various times
- Enforce disciplinary actions
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with juveniles
- Monitor juvenile movement
- Respond to emergencies
- Document incidents and disciplinary actions
- Conduct searches
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform additional assigned tasks
- Be available for on-call duties
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to learn software programs
- Stay updated on policy changes and operational methods
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required
- Background in human services or criminal justice preferred
- No prior experience necessary
Licenses and Certifications
Individuals must pass the TJJD Certification Exam to become a certified JSO.
