    THE PLACE


    The Harbor, Portland Rescue Mission's men's facility, is set in a park-like setting located in NE Portland, designed specifically to support the transformation and growth of men impacted by homelessness and addiction.

    This facility has the capacity to serve 38 adults.

    THE POSITION


    The MEN'S LIFE SKILLS AND OPERATIONS SPECIALIST will have the opportunity to serve program participants experiencing life transformation by training and supervising them in the kitchen, janitorial and facilities vocational assignments so they are prepared for future employment.

    This person will serve alongside the Life Skills Manager and Culinary Skills Manager to bring operational excellence to The Harbor and lead program participants towards order, accountability, and consistency in their personal life.

    THE ESSENTIALS
    Provide excellence to The Harbor operations and facility care creating a place of safety and hospitality

    Alongside the Life Skills Manager, oversee the successful operation of culinary, janitorial, hospitality, and facility care vocational training areas

    Schedule, train, and supervise program participants assigned to your vocational training areas

    Cultivate growth in program participant's workplace soft skills and an understanding of individual Strengths through supervising vocational training areas and classroom education

    Ensure program participants have all their living needs met and encourage their responsible stewardship of life, possessions, and surroundings

    Work directly with program participants as they prepare for future housing and employment needs, connecting them to necessary resources and solutions

    Walk alongside program participants as they identify and resolve needs related to medical, dental, health insurance, finances or other obstacles preventing independent living

    Engage with and mobilize volunteers whenever possible so that ministry is multiplied

    Schedule is Monday-Friday with two 8:30am-5:00pm shifts and three 10:30am-7:00pm shifts.

    As the next MEN'S LIFE SKILLS AND OPERATIONS SPECIALIST you are a mature Christian with strong relational skills and a commitment to excellence.

    You are very organized and able to handle many different tasks on any given day without skipping a beat. Hard work is your trademark and you are committed to leading by example.

    By nature you are a developer and trainer of people.

    You see potential in each person you interact with and you aren't afraid to say the important things that someone needs to hear in order to grow.

    You enjoy the practical aspects of life that allow a person to put their faith in action and honor God by being a faithful contributor in their home-life, church-life, and work-life.

    You are resourceful and know how to help people reach their goals.

    You balance action and approachability well.

    You are known as someone who gets things done but that doesn't mean you don't take the time to have a meaningful conversation in the midst of the busyness.

    You love creating order out of chaos in both tasks and relationships.

    You served people who were experiencing hope and restoration, people who were experiencing the love and grace of Jesus perhaps for the first time.


    BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS
    A passionate relationship with Jesus Christ and a testimony of continued growth in faith

    A calling to serve men impacted by homelessness and addiction

    Good understanding and experience in life skills development, facility operations and motivational principles

    Agreement with Portland Rescue Mission's Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics

    A personal ethos and work ethic that reflects Portland Rescue Mission's ministry culture – Highly Relational, Christ-Centered, Joyful Servant

    Experience working in teams and supervising people is preferred

    Basic understanding of homelessness and addiction recovery

    Proficient in documentation, organization, scheduling and instruction
