Accessible by land, sea, or air, Homer enjoys a moderate climate influenced by the nearby Pacific Ocean, offering milder winters and cooler summers compared to inland areas.
Incorporated on March 31, 1964, the City of Homer operates under a Council-Manager form of government.With a population of approximately 6,000, Homer is a first-class general law municipality governed by a mayor and six Council members.
The Council plays a crucial role in setting policies, adopting ordinances, and allocating funding through the annual Municipal budget.With a budget of $26.8 million, the City of Homer provides essential services including police, fire and EMS, public works, port and harbor management, library services, and administration.
The City Manager serves as the chief administrative officer, overseeing all city operations and leading department directors and administrative staff.
