- The Natural Gas Business Unit (NGBU) Pipeline and Station Support Engineering group provides engineering services to support capital project work and pipeline operations across a 5-state service area (NC, SC, TN, OH, KY).
- The team includes experts in controls and electrical design, corrosion engineering, and civil/structural engineering, who work on projects managed by Major Projects or Field Operations.
- Engineers are assigned based on their expertise to work on various capital projects simultaneously.
- Provide engineering support for both Capital and O&M projects for field pipeline stations.
- Participate in corporate initiatives and special projects.
- Perform other engineering tasks required by the NGBU.
- Hold a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from a four-year college or university with ABET accreditation or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Have a minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years with Professional Engineer registration.
- Demonstrate proficiency in engineering theories, principles, researching, evaluating alternatives, and making recommendations.
- Experience in electrical & instrumentation troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with P&ID and electrical schematics.
- Experience in electrical power distribution & controls.
- Knowledge of PLC or RTU programming.
- Previous experience in the natural gas or energy industry engineering.
- Understanding of basic principles of project management.
- Completion of the Engineering Fundamentals Exam with an aim for Professional Engineer registration.

Description
Job Summary
Responsibilities involve ensuring that new station designs meet project requirements and comply with NGBU standards. A Controls Engineer typically works on multiple projects simultaneously, ranging from equipment modifications to complete plant constructions.
Control equipment includes meters, correctors, transmitters, controllers, valves, odorizers, and remote terminal units/programmable logic controllers (RTU/PLC). Pipeline station types range from gas supplier receipt stations to automated main line valves (MLV).
The team also oversees the design and delivery of station control panels for these projects (around 65 per year).
