    About the Role


    Magna Steyr is looking for talented and experienced team members in complete vehicle development who are determined and passionate about developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architectures and production solutions. In the Chassis System Performance discipline, the Senior Engineer is responsible to lead the engineering activities relating to the function and performance of the vehicle chassis system. This position has a high level of responsibility and visibility and will interface with OEMs, Magna divisions, global module group teams and Tier 2 suppliers.

    Your Responsibilities


    Technical Responsibility

    Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and growth of the engineering team

    • Support Technical Area (TA) core competencies

    • Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices

    • Lead benchmarking studies and contribute to the benchmark knowledgebase

    • Propose and lead advanced development topics supporting the GTA

    • Propose continuous improvement opportunities to level up team skills, qualifications, tools, and processes

    • Support complex problem solving with cross functional teams

    • Establish program vehicle ride and handling targets to meet end customer and market requirements

    • Perform high performance and off-road driving maneuvers to support all aspects of chassis tuning

    • Monitor chassis performance to target and present results to the product team

    • Assist team in developing solutions to address deviations to chassis performance targets

    • Escalate potential target deviations in a timely manner

    • Assist team in preparation of vehicles for driving evaluations (ex. test equipment installation, data acquisition preparation)

    • Work directly with subsystem suppliers and support their efforts to evaluate and tune their systems

    • Interpret data acquired from driving evaluations and use it to assess chassis performance and make recommendations for improvements

    Who we are looking for


    Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting

    Employ technical expertise to lead the engineering development of one or more subsystems

    • Support the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestones

    • Lead external support, services and resources supporting the project engineering development

    • Support work development packages assigned to third parties

    • Confirm OEM and magna project performance targets and assure the targets are achievable

    • Confirm OEM and magna project cost and timing targets and assure the targets are achievable

    • Support the Project Manager (PM) and contribute to the project resource planning, budget development, and status reporting

    • Confirm the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) comprehends all project targets and is complete

    • Confirm the project Design Failure Mode and Effects and Analysis (DFMEA) comprehends all product risks and product usage cases

    Project Related Interface

    Support and Promote Project and Operations Collaboration

    • Lead global development touchpoint and milestone meetings

    • Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions

    • Collaborate with the other project GTAs

    Employee Related Tasks

    Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions

    • Ensure cooperation with project management

    • Ensure cooperation with all other groups within the area

    • Secure knowledge of development tools within the group

    • Ensure training of employees according to the required skills

    • Cooperation with all Magna Steyr locations

    • Escalate problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members

    • Education– BSME

    • Experience - 10+ years chassis system development and performance evaluation

    • Experience in complete vehicle development and manufacture

    • Experience supervising technical personnel preferred

    • Excellent communication skills and experience working with global teams

    • Experience in launching a complete vehicle

    • Experience in kinematic systems, linkages, joints, travel velocities, and force balancing

    • Experience in suspension dynamics and ride and handling tuning

    • Experience in cycle performance to reliability and confidence targets

    • Experience in electro / mechanism controls and sensor packaging

    • Experience in design release and testing of components and assemblies

    • Familiarity with ferrous & non-ferrous stampings, hydro form, transfer, deep draw, and progressive dies

    • Familiarity with non-ferrous extrusions, forming and bending

    • Familiarity with castings, ferrous and non-ferrous materials

    • Familiarity with welding, spot/resistance, Metal Inert Gas (MIG), Laser and Friction Stir Welding (FSW)

    • Familiarity with bonding and adhesive selection

    • Familiarity with fastening, threaded, riveted, and clip retainer fasteners

    • Familiarity with underbody corrosion protection

    • Hands-on experience with subjective and objective chassis related measurements including ratings

    • Experience with performing limit handling maneuvers (high performance driving ability)

    • Experience with providing ride and handling feedback to chassis tuning & calibration teams

    • Experience in working with chassis data collection software (ex. - Racelogic, Dynasoft)

    • Working knowledge of functional safety concepts (ISO 26262, HARA, FuSa)

    • Proficient computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

    • Computer knowledge and skills in CAD and CAE simulation preferred

    • Six Sigma certification preferred

    • Professional communication skills (written and verbal)

    • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer

    • Vehicle testing locations will at times be in very cold or very hot environments

    • Basic hands-on mechanical aptitude will be needed at times (assist team with component removal/installation as well as testing equipment)

    • Will require local, domestic, and international travel – less than 25% domestic + international
