Surgical Technologist, Surgical Services
Position Summary: Functions as the member of the surgical team who assists the surgeon, anesthesiologist/anesthetist and RN in delivering direct patient care during the entire preoperative experience. Acts as the primary scrub person during the operative procedure.
Primary Customers: Patients and their families, physicians and their office staff and all other hospital team members.

Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and ensures proper instrument during the operative procedure; applies the principles of sterile technique.
Technical Expertise
Correctly counts during operative procedures according to policy and procedures.
Accurately cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization according to hospital policy.
Accurately operates decontamination and sterilization equipment according to OR policy and procedures.
Accurately documents biological and sterilization information according to OR policy and procedures.
Leadership
Assists in providing meaningful orientation and ongoing experience to new staff, students and other team members.
Demonstrates beginning leadership skills related to patient care.
Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals.
PATIENT POPULATION THIS POSITION SERVICES: Infant, child, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of a program of surgical technology of at least one year duration.
Certifications: Certification by the Association of Operating Room Technicians required.
CPR required
Special Skills: Able to function in emergency situations
