Located at 701 Washington Street, Hotel 1928 is the historic restoration and adaptive reuse of the former Grand Karem Shrine Temple Building. Named after the year the building was completed, Hotel 1928 offers 33 guest rooms, two food and beverage outlets, a café, over 6,600 square feet of event space, a rooftop terrace, and a retail shop featuring exclusive Magnolia-designed Hotel 1928 merchandise.     ABOUT THE ROLE

    A Steward, also known as a Dishwasher, plays a vital role in our restaurants. This individual is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment by washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment. The Steward ensures efficient flow of kitchen operations by handling the essential task of cleaning and sanitizing used items. The diligent behind the scenes work of the Steward supports the entire restaurant team in delivering a safe and enjoyable dining experience to guests. This is an entry-level position that provides valuable experience and opportunities for growth within the kitchen and restaurant industry.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    • Dishwashing: The primary responsibility of the Steward us to wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment
    • Sanitization: Ensure that all items are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to meet food safety standards
    • Cleaning and Organization: Maintain a clean and organized dishwashing area, including emptying trash bins, cleaning sinks, and restocking cleaning supplies
    • Supporting Kitchen Staff: Assist kitchen staff by ensuring they have a steady supply of clean dishes and utensils for food preparation
    • Inventory Control: Help monitor and manage the inventory of dishwashing supplies, such as detergents and sanitizers
    • Assisting in Kitchen: During slower periods, assist with kitchen tasks, such as food preparation, basic cooking, or ingredient prep
    • Food Safety Adherence: Strictly adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage, handling, and disposal of food items
    • Team Communication: Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and servers to ensure that clean dishes are readily available for service

    WHO YOU ARE

    You are a critical behind-the-scenes team member who supports the kitchen staff by keeping the workspace clean and organized and ensuring they have the dishes and tools they need in order to serve our guests successfully and efficiently. You are dependable, hardworking, and able to handle physically demanding tasks. Your role is essential in maintaining the hygiene and functionality of the kitchen, allowing other kitchen staff to focus on food preparation.

    Qualifications

    This is an entry-level position but the following qualities are necessary to ensure success in this role:

    • Close attention to detail to ensure dishes and utensils are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized
    • The ability to stand for long periods of time and to lift heavy pots, pans, and trays
    • Ability to work quickly and efficiently to keep up with the demands of a busy kitchen
    • Team player than can collaborate effectively with the rest of the kitchen staff
    • Adaptable and able to handle changes in the pace of work and adapt to the kitchen's needs
    • Time Management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
    • Food Safety Certification and knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices a plus
