Entry Level - Client ServicesPeople Incorporated Mental Health Services is seeking students for our Paid Summer Internship Program, a 10-week paid learning experience designed to help students gain real-world exposure to community mental health.

This internship focuses on building confidence, developing professional skills, and preparing participants for meaningful careers in behavioral health and human services.


Interns will work alongside interdisciplinary teams and receive direct mentorship while participating in structured cohort trainings facilitated by the People Incorporated Training Institute.

Through hands-on learning, interns will build foundational knowledge of mental health systems, strengthen person-centered engagement skills, and develop career-ready professional competencies.


Each intern reports to the Learning & Development Manager and receives daily guidance and task coordination from an assigned onsite mentor.


Schedule:
Approximately 24 hours per week (typically Monday/Wednesday/Friday). Exact schedules may vary by placement site.

Program Dates:
June 1 – August 7 (10 weeks)

Location:
Minnesota-based | Twin Cities Metro Area (Onsite placement varies by program)

Compensation:
$20.00/hour paid through grant funding

Program Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities

Interns will participate in structured learning experiences designed to support professional growth and exposure to mental health services, which may include:

Core Learning Objectives

Build foundational knowledge of mental health conditions and systems of care
Develop person-centered engagement and communication skills
Strengthen professionalism, confidence, and career readiness
Learn interdisciplinary collaboration within community mental health settings

Hands-On Experience May Include

Supporting staff with client engagement, resource navigation, and service referrals
Assisting with group programming and skill-building activities
Observing and participating in care coordination processes
Supporting life enrichment activities that promote independence and recovery
Learning documentation practices and program operations
Participating in weekly cohort trainings, supervision meetings, and mentorship sessions
Collaborating with program staff across clinical and administrative teams

Potential Placement Areas

Access Recovery Centers (ARC) in Minneapolis or St. Paul
Children's Services Programs (New Hope & Coon Rapids)
Crisis & Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) in Minneapolis or St. Paul
Dakota County Community Residential Services (CRS)

QualificationsRequired Qualifications

Current undergraduate (pre-baccalaureate) student
Ability to commit to the full 10-week internship program
Ability to pass a criminal background check
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new systems
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

Coursework in psychology, social work, public health, human services, business, or related fields
Interest in pursuing a career in mental health or nonprofit services
Experience working or volunteering in community, healthcare, or human service settings
