    Duties


    • Validates records for completeness, accuracy and integrity.
    • Responsible for maintaining the medical records files, requesting inactive medical records from the Federal Record Center in accordance to their current procedure.
    • Processes requests for medical information from patient's chart for outside agencies. Applies judgment in determining what is needed, whether the information may be released.
    • Scans documents into the Electronic Health Record to keep primary providers aware of current patient status.
    • Imports documents from a file folder into the Electronic Health Record.

    Background Investigation:

    OPEN CONTINUOUS:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

    GS-04: 1 year of General Experience OR 2 years above high school.


    GS-05: 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 Grade Level OR 4 years above high school.

    GS-06: 1 year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 Grade Level.


    Specialized Experience Defined:


    GS-05: Reviewing medical records in a clinic or hospital setting insuring files are complete and documents are filed correctly; scanning documents into an electronic health record; & preparing correspondence for fax, mail, or personal pickup.


    GS-06: Receiving, scanning, indexing, and filing of non-electronic medical and administrative information and forms; ensuring clinical and administrative forms are scanned and integrated into the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS); & conducting quality audits and verifying the integrity and overall quality of scanned images.


    General Experience:

    Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.


    Specialized Experience:

    Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.

    To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.

    Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.

    This position has an education requirement.

    Per IHS policy (SGM IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption.
