    How will you make a difference?

    As a member of the Heat Transfer Solutions Group, you will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing an effective health & safety, loss prevention and accident program for the Wabtec facilities located in Lexington, TN and Jackson, TN. Reporting to both the business General Manager and Divisional Director of EHS, the successful individual will provide leadership and coaching across the enterprise creating a proactive approach to safety in the workplace. This role ensures that sound safety and health management systems are in place, anticipating, recognizing, and evaluating safety and health hazards, assisting with problem solving, monitoring and continuously improving the performance of the sites safety and health systems. It is a highly visible position and interacts with all employees concerning health and safety, assessing hazard conditions, and implementing practices to reduce those hazards.

    What do we want to know about you? Do you have:

    • Associates, or Bachelor's degree in safety engineering science or related discipline from an accredited university or college. Suitable and proven experience might be substituted for a degree.
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a plant safety role, or relevant staff experience in a manufacturing facility. (We prefer prior experience in a matrixed organizational structure desired)
    • Prior demonstrated experience in utilization of formal/structured problem-solving methodologies, i.e., 5 whys, turtle diagrams, 9 step, etc.
    • In depth knowledge of safety and health regulations and applications.
    • Fundamental knowledge and understanding of with governmental compliance including OSHA regulations, environment compliance, industry standards and right to know compliance.
    • Prior demonstrated experience in successfully leading change across an organization that possesses legacy norms.
    • Strong influential leadership, coaching, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
    • Experience identifying risk conditions and defining corrective actions programs.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills including the ability to provide written, verbal instructions, and present business correspondence clearly.

    Presentation skills with the ability to speak in public effectively and provide presentations to groups of employees.

    What will your typical day look like?

    • Communicate and maintain safety and hazardous communication programs and systems. Oversee the effective operation and administration of these systems and programs to ensure a safe work environment and culture of zero accidents.
    • Tracks safety performance in a company shared data base system.
    • Lead the sites safety initiatives.
    • Develops a proactive and collaborative approach across the site to create a healthy and safe working environment.
    • Maintain and update JSAs (job safety analysis) as needed.
    • Conduct training of various EHS related programs to promote a positive EHS culture and continuous improvement mindset.
    • Implements and provides guidance for written policies at procedures for various EHS programs that align with the Wabtec Management System.
    • Coordinate and conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and address any unsafe work practices and conditions.
    • Identify root causes of near misses, injuries, and property damage incidents to prevent future events of similar nature.
    • Assists management, operations, and engineering on matters related to ergonomics and continuous improvements when new workplace projects are being developed to ensure any safety and health issues are adequately addressed prior to the startup of the process.
    • Collaborates with human resources on the development of a safety training program to support onboarding process through site awareness training for new hired employees, including contractors, before being released into the workplace.
    • Coordinates industrial hygiene surveys including noise, ventilation, chemical and ergonomic. Analyze and interpret data and recommend elimination/reduction of potential hazards in the workplace. Coordinate employee testing (i.e., hearing conservation).
    • Designs and delivers safety related communication, including signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.
    • Reviews all correspondence required by regulatory agencies, including OSHA reporting requirements, and any environmental reporting.

    You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
