    Job Purpose

    The Commodity Buyer is responsible for the assigned auto parts piece price, investment, and annual cost reduction, all of which have significant impact on HDMA financial performance. The Commodity Buyer will work on Establishment of part and supplier SAs (Situation Analysis) through understanding of the Global and North American supply base, manufacturing process and critical part design elements. Considering input from key stakeholders, the Commodity Buyer will propose the selection of the best cost, quality, development, and delivery supplier.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Develop, gain approval, & execute Model SAs for assigned commodities/suppliers between 8~10 suppliers with $150M ~ $300M in annual spend
    • Responsible for accurate and timely supplier selection & Bill of Material (BOM) Maintenance
    • Establish and achieve logical new model cost targets through supplier selection & negotiation
    • Responsible for achieving annual mass production cost improvement goals (ACR), between $4M ~ $7M
    • Ensure accurate and timely quotation processing to ensure efficient payment to suppliers
    • Research and monitor industry trends (sourcing, technology, market price)
    • Gain consensus on new model supplier selection, managing multiple model developments during correlation activity with stakeholders
    • Responsible for building long-term supplier relationships based on trust
    • Maintain the Global Maker Layout (GML) system and issue Global Sourcing Requests (GSR)

    Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

    Minimum Educational Qualifications: Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience (Business Degree preferred)

    Average Experience: 0 4 Years, depending on education

    Qualification Status: Successful completion of degree program or equivalent years of experience in industry

    Other Job-Specific Skills: Ability to negotiate based on logic, manage cost, manage supplier relationships, work in teams to build consensus, solve problems, analytical thinking, project contribution, technical aptitude

    Financial Dimensions: Annual Desk Spend ($150M - $300M), Annual Cost Down Target ($4M ~ $7M

    Decisions Expected

    • Evaluate, prepare, and present recommendations for supplier selection for all NA regional new model launches.
    • Develop, evaluate, and manage ACR strategy recommendations to support target achievement through logic, target $4M ~ $7M
    • Gain model SA consensus with design and plant on future technology direction and research.
    • Prepare, summarize, and determine whether to qualify new suppliers on the basis of Q,C,D,D,M
    • Evaluate continuous improvement methods to support organization objectives

    Working Conditions

    International travel may be required once or twice a year with an average length of 1-2 weeks per trip (10%)

    Willingness to work overtime due to the cyclical business needs of our NM launches.

    Open office environment with moderate level of noise and activity.

    Expect large amount of day a computer and in meetings, 10% travel to suppliers

    Blended remote work is an available option based on management discretion and operating needs.

    Regular occurrence of communicating and presenting information in groups for evaluation purposes.
