    Job Description

    A Day in the Life:

    PRT is seeking a Full-Time Nursery Supervisor to be based in Atmore, AL at PRT Atmore. In addition to involvement in the day-to-day operations associated with container seedling production, this position assists the Nursery Manager in strategic planning and implementation of seed stratification, sowing, fertilization, irrigation, crop management, and harvest. Once the seedling crops is established, the Nursery Supervisor assists in all cultural activities involved in the production of a quality seedling crop, (i.e., irrigation management, pesticide/fertilizer applications, seedling inventories, and various other specialized cultural activities.). With the arrival of fall, the focus will turn to inventory finalization, strong customer communications, contract labor force management, seedling harvest, and logistics. Equipment, buildings, and grounds must be maintained at all times to prevent downtime, avert unscheduled maintenance, promote safety, and foster good housekeeping. Except for a few annual meetings, this position requires very little overnight travel.

    Key Accountabilities of the Nursery Supervisor:

    • Supervise container seedling production
    • Assist the Nursery Manager with planning and achieving production targets
    • Ensure proper maintenance of the facility and equipment
    • Track and finalize inventory
    • Processing of Accounts Payable
    • Manage labor force
    • Complete timesheets for payroll (inhouse & contract)
    • Coordinate logistics for all seedling shipments
    • Oversee refrigerated van rentals
    • Correspond with customers
    • Arrange harvest scheduling with Nursery Manager and contract labor force.
    • Enforce safe work practices
    • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
    • Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
    • Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

    About the team:

    The Nursery Supervisor will report to the Nursery Manager at PRT Atmore. PRT Atmore is located 11 miles outside the town of Atmore. Atmore is in western Escambia County with its southern border being the Florida state line. A pleasant climate, the city of Atmore offers excellent recreational facilities, including golf, tennis, walking trails and swimming pools. Just 50 min south-west is the beautiful town of Mobile. Once called the Paris of the South, with 300 years of history and the cultural center of the Gulf Coast, this city has something for everyone. Ballet, theatre, opera and the symphony, Water based adventures, cruises, museums, and attractions from art to Mardi Gras. The Mobile Delta provides 20,323 acres of open water for year-round fishing, canoeing, and camping.

    Qualifications

    Required/Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Working knowledge of pine seedling nursery/ agricultural operations, horticulture, equipment, irrigation, fertilization, and pesticides
    • Valid Driver's License
    • IMS Management
    • Strong people and office management skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
    • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, Outlook)
    • Communicate with honesty, kindness and respect

    Additional or Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

    • Solid understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations
    • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions
