    To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State and board certification in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

    Duties Description * Location to be determined, will be Capital District DDSOO, 500 Balltown Road, Schenectady, New York 12304 OR Adirondack Clinic, 200 Smith Dr., Corinth, NY 12822.
    • Will serve on a rotating Medical on Call schedule.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION:
    The Psychiatrist 2 is essential to health and safety and the core mission of OPWDD.

    Many individuals in the care of OPWDD are diagnosed with a combination of Intellectual/Developmental and psychiatric disabilities in addition to medical conditions.

    This is a challenging combination that requires treatment by a clinician who has experience treating people with multiple conditions.

    Assisting an individual to manage their mental health is essential to their well-being and supports OPWDD's core mission of helping people live richer lives.

    The Psychiatrist 2 will independently diagnose, treat, prescribe, and provide psychiatric care and treatment services to an assigned caseload of adult individuals.

    The incumbent will work with an interdisciplinary treatment team to provide clinical guidance. Communication and collaboration with family members and outside entities is expected. Documentation in an Electronic Health Record is an essential function of this position. Telehealth may be utilized based on the needs of the individuals served.


    DUTIES:


    Incumbents in this position will provide a variety of psychiatric treatment services to individuals in accordance with Article 131 of the Education Law and ABPN standards of care.

    The Psychiatrist 2 will provide a variety of psychiatric care and treatment services to an assigned caseload of individuals including but not limited to:

    • Obtains, reviews, clarifies, updates, and records individual information, such as psychiatric and medical histories, test results, diagnoses, prescribed treatments, and individual responses.
    • Conducts psychiatric screenings, evaluations, and examinations; orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests and procedures; determines and/or confirms diagnoses; and treats a variety of psychiatric conditions.
    • Prescribes and/or administers psychiatric treatments, medications, therapies, and/or other care to treat individual conditions; conducts follow-up examinations and monitors individual conditions, modifying treatment as needed.
    • Collaborates with other health care professionals and disciplines to achieve treatment goals and objectives and ensure continuity of care.
    • Explains and discusses procedures, test results, diagnoses, and prescribed treatments with individuals, families, and outside entities per consent.
    • Refers individuals to other health care providers based on diagnostic and treatment needs.
    • Assesses individuals for admission, transfer, or discharge to and from treatment programs.
    • Participates in discharge planning and recommends or approves individual discharges.
    • Maintains documentation consistent with agency, State, and federal requirements.
    • Consults with and advises other psychiatrists, physicians, medical providers, and health care disciplines on diagnoses and treatment plans; and reviews and approves treatment recommendations.
    • Provides clinical guidance and training to other medical professionals, nursing, psychologists, and direct care staff; and monitors the coordination and implementation of care.
    • Reviews individual records to confirm diagnoses, and/or ensure that treatments are appropriate for diagnoses and that electronic health records are properly maintained.
    • Will assist with policy development and implementation and plans of corrective action.
    • Provide Telehealth services when deemed appropriate for Region 3.
