Job summary
This position directs day-to-day management of farm operations including planting irrigation and harvesting to provide essential research support for stone fruit and pecan research projects at USDA ARS Fruit and Tree Nut Research Lab located at Byron GA.
Responsibilities
- Directing daily farm operations such as planting irrigation harvesting mowing weed eating herbicide applications fence repair installation maintaining equipment used in field inspecting equipment ensuring proper functioning coordinating maintenance or repairs collaborating with faculty project leaders on design implementation of field experiments modifying executing field experiments to maintain uniform conditions collecting soil samples fertilizer applications field preparation planting clean-up monitoring weather conditions recording data managing irrigation system developing coordinating maintenance schedules for equipment facilities managing property maintenance tasks operating heavy machinery specialized equipment performing operational planning creating schedules to operate equipment preparing plot turnover irrigation spraying pruning assisting hiring staff supervising seasonal workers interns ensuring safety protocols followed adhering local state federal regulations reporting field evaluations team.
