    Description
    Duties

    As an Electronics Worker (Title 32), WG , you will perform the below duties:
  • Installs, maintains and repairs a variety of electronic components, related devices and equipment from fixed, semi-fixed and mobile facilities. Performs organizational maintenance and repair on electronic and communication receivers, amplifiers, switchboards, telephones, remote control sets, recorders, intercommunication equipment, night vision sights, searchlights, teletypewriter sets, intrusion detection systems, hand sets, microphones, CVC helmets, etc. Some electronic equipment serviced may be combined and interrelated with other electronic equipment and complementary devices.
  • Performs limited direct support maintenance and repairs such as aligning and tuning electronic equipment; replacing defective switches, relay armatures, transistors, cannon plugs, wiring harnesses, sliprings, potentiometers, AC and DC motors, blower assemblies, converter assemblies, igniter assemblies, semiconductors, etc.
  • Conducts organizational level inspections, of electronic equipment at MATES, diagnoses malfunctions, and troubleshoots electronic equipment to determine cause of failure. Determines whether equipment may be repaired at organizational level or evacuated to a higher level of maintenance.
  • Uses a variety of test equipment such as systems test sets, frequency meters, ohmmeters, multimeters, signal generators, watt meters and special and common hand tools.
  • Modifies communication and electronic equipment in accordance with prescribed Modification Work Orders and Technical Bulletins.
  • Schedules and performs TM required services on electronic equipment. Performs monthly and periodic organizational maintenance on electronic equipment.
  • Inspects communication and electronic equipment prior to issue to using units to assure that it is operating properly. Instructs user personnel in the operation and maintenance of equipment and provides technical advice and assistance to user personnel. Inspects equipment prior to turn-in to the activity to assure that it is operational, and that required maintenance has been performed by user. Prepares a listing of required repairs and/or shortages of components.
  • May perform organizational and limited direct support maintenance and repairs on automotiveand heavy mobile equipment, small arms, artillery weapons and other equipment supported by the shop.
  • May be required to serve as a member of the Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Team (MAIT) on communication and electronic equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
    • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

    • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
    • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
    • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
    • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
    • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
    • This position is located at a bargaining unit and eligible for union representation through Chapter 102 of the Association of Civilian Technicians.

      Qualifications

      WHO CAN APPLY:
      GROUP I - All qualified Male/Female Enlisted Member (E1/PV1 - E7/SFC), currently employed (permanent) in the Virginia Army National Guard Military Technician Program.
      GROUP II - All qualified Virginia Army National Guard Male/Female Enlisted Member (E1/PV1 - E7/SFC), regardless of employment status (Traditional, Military Technician or AGR). To be considered as a Group II applicant, proof of appointment/enlistment in the Virginia National Guard must be attached if the appointment/enlistment occurred within 60 days prior to, or during, the advertisement period.

      Military Grades: Enlisted Member (E1/PV1 - E7/SFC)

      GENERAL EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have experience performing organizational and limited direct support maintenance on a variety of communication-electronic equipment and related devices supported by the activity.

      SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : Applicant must have at least 18 months of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the WG-7 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government. This experience may also have been obtained in the private sector but must demonstrate that it is comparable to the WG grade indicated. This experience must include activities such as:
    • Experience inspecting communication and electronic equipment prior to issue to using units to assure that it is operating properly.
    • Experience instructing user personnel in the operation and maintenance of equipment and provides technical advice and assistance to user personnel.
    • Experience inspecting equipment prior to turn-in to the activity to assure that it is operational, and that required maintenance has been performed by user.
    • Experience preparing a listing of required repairs and/or shortages of components.
