Description
The Department of Art, Art History & Design at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor of Painting & Drawing to begin Fall 2024.
The Department seeks an innovative artist with an expanded understanding of contemporary practice in painting and drawing. Candidates should be knowledgeable in contemporary technical and critical aspects of the mediums and highly committed to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses related to painting and drawing in a multidisciplinary curriculum.
Qualified applicants should have an active exhibition record and teaching experience. The appointed faculty member will teach 3 undergraduate classes a semester and participate in the Painting & Drawing MFA seminar and departmental MFA and BFA critiques. A semi-private studio will be provided along with access to the department's woodshop, digital printing studio, laser cutter, 3-d printers, CNC router, photo cage, and other fabrication related facilities.
A terminal degree (MFA) in studio art is required for this position. Ideal candidates should have 2 years of teaching and professional experience beyond graduate school.

The Department of Art, Art History & Design is a vibrant, multidisciplinary department offering programs of study in studio art, art history, and design at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We provide students with intellectually informed instruction in critical visual studies within the context of the liberal arts at an international Catholic research university.
Under the guidance of a talented and diverse faculty, students acquire the technical and visual skills necessary to work creatively, develop their intellectual abilities to think critically, and cultivate the personal discipline and maturity to reflect thoughtfully on the world and our place in it.
With easy access to the museums and galleries of Chicago (90 minutes away by car) and museums in Indianapolis, Toledo, and Detroit within a few hours of campus, students have ample opportunity to enrich their research and practice.
