DUTIES:
This is for an Indefinite Temporary position.

Using prescribed maintenance and repair procedures, makes major and minor repairs and performs preventive maintenance to all types of equipment in approximately 48 different classes to include all highway equipment, excavation equipment, cranes from 7 to 1,000 tons, and the TVA floating fleet; also rebuilds engines, transmissions, and torque converters.

Will rotate to other subassemblies or workstations as directed. Must be able to diagnose problems and make appropriate repairs. Pulls oils samples and maintains records of service work performed. Makes visual inspections of equipment while performing service work and performs repairs as needed. Orders supplies and materials that are needed for the preventive maintenance program.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the supervisor of the shop and/or field and under the direct supervision of the maintenance foreman or head foreman assigned to the job and performs preventive maintenance.

SUPERVISION OVER OTHERS:
Supervises the work performed by the mechanic helper, apprentices, and other crafts assigned to him/her.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a journeyman mechanic capable of reading and interpreting work orders, verbal or written orders, schematic drawings, manufacturer's specifications, and operators and maintenance manuals.

Must also be capable of reading and interpreting parts manuals, filling out materials requisitions, and ordering parts and supplies for all assigned repairs and preventive maintenance.

Must have knowledge of and be capable of using special tools, such as, but not limited to, micrometers, dial indicators, valve grinders, and hydraulic and electric systems test equipment, etc.

Capability for a journeyman mechanic may be acquired through a formal apprenticeship program or corresponding experience related to this type of equipment.

Must be able to travel for an extended period of time and work overtime as needed.

Must be able to perform duties in all types of weather and conditions, including fly ash atmosphere. Must also be capable of working alone and at various heights.

Must be able to perform minor burning and welding repairs. Welding certification may be required.

S-5 physical examination is required. Must possess a current commercial driver's license (Class A Preferred, Minimum Class B).

Must be able to fill out and maintain service records.

Must perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and abide by all safety rules and regulatory requirements. Must have OSHA 10 training.

Must have or be able to certify before employment on air brakes and Freon recovery system.
