    GENERAL PURPOSE:


    The Assistant Dean / Director of Honesty and Integrity establishes and advises senior leadership in Arts, Sciences, and Engineering on best practices in academic honesty policy and process for undergraduate and graduate education.

    In addition to leading strategic planning, policy development, and program evaluation / assessment for academic honesty and integrity, the Director is solely responsible for overseeing design and delivery of educational measures (orientation, Board training, and post-responsibility coursework) to support a campus culture of integrity.

    By mutual agreement, the Assistant Dean / Director provides specialized expert consulting to divisions across the College and University on best practices in honesty policy and process, including regular collaboration with the Center for Student Conflict Management and teaching and learning units to disseminate course and assignment design, pedagogy and adjudication practices, set campus standards, and garner national recognition for restorative approaches to honesty and integrity support.


    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Strategic Planning, Budget Oversight, & Policy Development

    • Advises senior leadership on effective College- and department-wide policies and practices regarding prevention of academic dishonesty and adjudication of academic honesty concerns
    • Responsible for short- and long-term program planning, establishing program priorities, and new services
    • Crafts and vets changes to academic honesty policy based on experience, research, expert knowledge of best practice and documented stakeholder feedback
    • Ensures that academic integrity policies, procedures, and practices are in compliance with campus culture of integrity
    • Leads research and benchmarking for honesty and integrity policy evaluation and revision, develops pre-and post-responsibility training, and related office assessment initiatives
    • Leads design, delivery, and evaluation of honesty policy revision, curriculum development, and assessment resources, in collaboration with senior administrators such as the faculty Chair of the Board on Academic Honesty, the Deputy Chair, and others
    • Develops solutions to complex situations, monitors trends, determines when new programs are needed, and determines appropriate technologies to deliver services
    • Provides expert guidance on the adoption of educational technology to help protect honesty and integrity across AS&E, including artificial intelligence/Large Language Model tools such as ChatGPT; conducts needs analyses and seeks input from faculty Board Chair, senior leaders in the College, across campus, and in other offices (Educational Technology, Writing, Speaking, & Argument Program) as needed

    • Sets strategic priorities for "Team Honesty," including mission, vision, values, and yearly goals of the Board on Academic Honesty; oversees dedicated operating budget (not including peer mentor, student employee, professional staff salary) in support of such efforts

    Training, Teaching, & Collaboration

    • Leads outreach across AS&E community (new faculty orientation, regular meetings with academic departments and other campus offices), to establish baseline understanding of teaching, learning, and reporting expectations expressed in AS&E academic honesty policy as well as in accompanying internal guidelines documents maintained by the Board
    • Oversees delivery, hires; supervises and mentors OHI staff in evaluating in-house educational interventions assigned as outcomes in honesty and integrity process, including academic honesty tutorials in online (synchronous and asynchronous) and in-person delivery modes; develops integrity in Academic Life (DIAL) curricula, and related initiatives
    • Partners with specialized, recognizable, and outward-facing university initiatives, e.g., Rochester Equal Justice Initiative, to adapt River Campus curricula and honesty processes to fit the needs of their students and faculty
    • Oversees design and delivery, evaluates workshops to increase awareness and understanding of effective ways to promote honesty and integrity in the classroom; maintains online resources to provide "just-in-time" guidance to faculty, staff, senior leadership on honesty and integrity including referrals to other in-house experts as well as to outside consultants and resources
    • Recruits, trains, and supervises graduate fellow(s), part-time assistants, dedicated staff (e.g., Assistant/Associate Director, Board Secretary) who contribute to developing and evaluating academic honesty education messaging and outreach
    • In collaboration with the faculty Chair of the Board on Academic Honesty, recruits, trains, supports, and monitors faculty Board members, including the super Presiding Officers responsible for dissemination of best practices in determining responsibility and adjudicating cases

    Advising, Consultation, & Mentorship

    • Helps faculty and students navigate the honesty system in AS&E; offers voluntary, impartial, and confidential advice to faculty across AS&E and in other divisions regarding all aspects of the academic honesty reporting process
    • Promotes campus culture of integrity for AS&E faculty and staff; researches, evaluates, and identifies challenges to sustainability of this culture, guides senior leadership in the College and across the university in allocating resources to address them
    • Provides expert guidance on techniques and best practices to facilitate honesty and integrity in academic work while promoting demonstration of course and program learning objectives
    • Recruits, trains, supervises assistant and associate director, student employees, other staff who contribute to the development of academic honesty confidential advising, curriculum development for post-responsibility training, cross-campus collaboration, and support
    • Leads a process of continuous improvement to resolve complex operational issues
    • Mentors All Campus Judicial Council student leaders who participate in managing cases and adjudicating the honesty and integrity system; troubleshoots, collaborates, and meets regularly with senior leaders in Center for Student Conflict Management in support of these efforts
    • Consults and advises the operations of the Board on Academic Honesty, including monitoring the appeals process and screening incoming appeals for alignment with stated criteria

    Professional Development

    • Pursues scholarly agenda necessary to maintain status as academic leader, campus expert, national and international consultant in honesty policy, pedagogy, and process concerns
    • Participates actively in professional associations relevant to academic honesty and integrity (the International Center for Academic Integrity) as well as areas of specialization (Conference on College Composition & Communication, Association for Writing Across the Curriculum, etc.)
    • Mentor's office personnel to develop their own scholarly-administrative areas of specialization including active conference attendance and writing for professional publication
    • As appropriate, teaches equivalent of one course per academic year in order to develop and refine practices to promote integrity and honesty in the classroom, especially (but not exclusively) as relates to artificial intelligence/Large Language Model tools
    Other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Doctoral or other appropriate terminal degree in relevant area of specialization required.
    • At least four years required (seven to ten preferred) of progressively responsible experience in academic honesty and integrity program administration, academic affairs, faculty development, teaching and learning, or similar.

    Pay Range

    Pay Range:
    $75,650 - $113,464 Annually

    _The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job.

    Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
