    The opportunity

    The Product Development and Engineering job family is the core of Magic Leap's revolutionary AR capabilities.

    These highly collaborative teams are responsible for our organization's engineering and technical operations, performing cutting-edge and complex scientific research and development that is 'defined as we build' to create new AR products, features, and marketplaces.

    Activities include undertaking research, design, development, and implementation activities to improve Magic Leap's AR products and services; designing, constructing, testing, and operating equipment; ensuring that standards of quality, cost, safety, reliability, timeliness, and performance are met in production processes; interpreting plans, drawings, and specifications; and collaborating across all Magic Leap teams to ensure our AR product and features provide a high-quality, immersive experience, meeting and exceeding our customer's needs and our business objectives.

    As a Sr.

    Technician, within our Advanced Nanofabrication and Materials R&D team, you will be responsible for providing critical measurements and feedback to design, fabrication, and materials engineering teams to enable continued advancement of waveguide eyepiece technology.

    This hands-on role will involve data collection, analysis, and reporting with SEM and AFM, as well as the potential for use of other metrology and process tools.

    This position is based at our Austin, TX location. Relocation assistance offered.

    What you'll do


    • Support engineering activities involved in the design, fabrication, and testing of waveguide eyepiece technology.
    • Hands-on contributor capable of assisting engineers through various stages of design, development, and technology maturity by performing test and metrology measurements (primarily SEM and AFM but also optical diffraction efficiency).
    • Execute test plans per plan, record and organize data, provide feedback, collect materials, and participate in various stages of issue root cause and corrective action activities.
    • Quality inspection and control of nano-imprint templates and waveguides
    • Maintain detailed log sheet on measurement conditions, process conditions, and results
    • Participate in technical meetings as required to resolve technical issues.
    • Plan for and procure required materials, equipment, etc. to support activities.
    • Apply engineering theory and practical knowledge at technician level, under direction of engineering staff.
    • Maintain proper operational state of lab equipment and fixtures.
    • Support engineering in fabrication of nano-imprint templates (dry etch, wet etch, lithography), which may include working in a solvent hood environment and chemical handling.
    The experience you bring


    • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in industry, physical sciences, semiconductor, or related domains required. We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures
    • Uses computer-based data acquisition and processing
    • Has a working knowledge of statistics for data characterization and hypothesis testing
    • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
    • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    • Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school highly preferred
    • Ability to work in a solvent hood environment handling chemicals for wet etch, experience with dry etch and/or lithography.
