- Design and facilitate novel composite membrane separators for water electrolyzer technologies.
- Understand and characterize structure-processing-property relationships of membrane structure.
- Develop inorganic and ceramic coatings filled nanocomposite polymer membrane structures capable of operating at higher temperatures.
- Plan and execute a wide range of physico-chemical and electrochemical testing protocols, including performance, reliability, and durability of membrane separators in targeted application.
- Support manufacturing with membrane scale-up process and techno-economic analyses
- Train group technicians, student interns, or visiting collaborators/partners.
- Present and report research results in a timely manner.
- File inventions on new membranes/materials chemistry and assist in review and monitoring of patent and scientific literature relating to the technology.
- Ensure and be compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
- Master's degree or PhD degree in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, (or Related field) with 3-5 years of industrial experience.
- Experience in nanocomposite membrane formulation and fabrication process is preferred.
- Experience in electrochemical processes is a plus.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever-changing needs.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
- Must be a team player and passionate about renewable energy and sustainability.
- Experience facilitating industry engagement in research and expanding the technology readiness level.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate to an international, scientific audience.

Our Opportunity
FFI Ionix are seeking a Product Development Scientist to join the technology team to develop membrane separators for water electrolyzers. The successful candidate for this position will have hands-on experience in membrane fabrication technology and will have a clear understanding of the fundamental principles of design criteria that will lead to a high performing and new generation of membrane separators for water electrolysis technologies. Candidates with fresh or prior work experience in composite membrane product development for filtration, gas separation and water purification are encouraged to apply.
Location: Harrington Delaware, moving to Dover, Delaware in 2024.
