    STARTING THE SCHOOL YEAR

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Colorado certificate/license with K-12 occupational therapy endorsement.
    • Successful experience working with school age children.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

    Job Goal:
    Occupational therapists work toward developing functional skills that allow students to access the general curriculum.

    The occupational therapist works with students with fine motor deficits to aid them in acquiring the skills or the compensatory skills in the areas of fine motor, sensory motor, visual motor and visual perceptual, and self-care.


    Performance Responsibilities:

    • Participates in the child study, referral and IEP process as requested and appropriate.
    • Makes scheduling decisions for service delivery based on individual student and school needs.
    • Utilizes an approach that encourages student participation in the least restrictive environment.
    • Exhibits knowledge of clinical theory and its application as it relates to the student's educational needs.
    • Participates in the selection, design and/or construction of necessary adaptive equipment.
    • Responds to requests for consultations on students or consults on specific program needs.
    • Responds to evaluation referrals for students with disabilities. The therapist selects appropriate evaluation tools, evaluates students, interprets findings, and reports results.
    • Completes portions of the IEP pertaining to assessment findings and present levels of functioning, assistive technology and accommodations and modifications.
    • Maintains records on students including progress monitoring.
    • Maintains a current schedule which is shared with assigned schools and the Department of Special Programs.
    • Supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs).
    • Participates in the clinical supervision of occupational therapy students and occupational therapy assistant students.
    • Recommends equipment, materials, and test supplies necessary for assigned schools and students.
    • Serves on committees that benefit the learning environment for students, therapists, and other school personnel that may include the assistive technology team and infant assessment team.
    • Travels to assigned schools

    Salary:
    Certified salary is based upon degree status and years of experience. Horizontal advancements are based upon Graduate level credits and staff development hours obtained after the last degree was conferred.

    Salary Schedule


    One year of credit will be provided for each year of approved outside teaching experience up to a maximum of sixteen (16) years (earned within the past 16 years).
