    We are looking for a Medical Excellence Lead with excellent scientific acumen, relationship-building skills, and collaboration, to join us in our US Epilepsy and Rare Syndromes Medical Affairs team in this field-based position.

    About the role:

    The Medical Excellence Lead will contribute to the ambition of driving medical affairs excellence in US Epilepsy and Rare Syndromes Medical Affairs. He/she will lead the strategic development and deployment of MSLs, Neurology Medical Outcomes Liaison (nMOL's) and internal Medical Affairs roles and will ensure competitiveness through differentiation from a capability and mindset perspective. The key mandate is to facilitate investment in the medical team to ensure their holistic development, career progression, and external impact. Time allocated towards each Medical Affairs sub team will be reflective of the team size thus it is anticipated that Field Medical Teams will occupy a larger percentage of time and energy.

    What you'll do

    Medical Capability Excellence

    • Advance US nPVU Field Medical vision and strategy to drive greater impact of US Field Medical teams.
    • In partnership with cross-functional teams, enhance and implement field team excellence framework and competency assessment to drive medical field team excellence.
    • Contribute to the development of pre/post-launch performance dashboards. Evolve dashboards and reporting from quantitative activity metrics to impact and outcome KPIs.
    • Continually evolve and advance Field Medical Insights capability to ensure high-quality and compliant insights to inform overall brand strategy.
    • Ensure goals are accomplished within boundaries established by regulatory, legal and compliance and in accordance with company policies, processes, and sound ethical practices.

    Medical Talent Identification and Development

    • Participate substantively in the recruitment and hiring of new field medical team members.
    • Develop onboarding, training, and assessment plan for new field medical employees in collaboration with managers.
    • Supervise the training and onboarding for all newly hired Medical Affairs team members.
    • Develop and embed the nPVU E2E medical value proposition and excellence in execution mindset across the business and bring strategy-to-impact to the field team.

    External Engagement

    • With Field Leaders, drive development and implementation of Field Medical scientific interaction planning/engagement plans to enable consistency and greater effectiveness of field medical teams.
    • Involvement in industry associations, congresses, and specific initiatives to identify key strategic insights, trends, and opportunities.

    Strategic Planning and Collaboration

    • Contribute as Subject Matter Expert to cross-functional initiatives of which Field Medical Affairs is a key component, or which have a key impact on Medical – e.g., Launch Excellence, Quality of Care, Evidence Generation, Customer Experience, Patient Journey, Digital Business Transformation.
    • Develop & support implementation of guidance & SOP on external medical engagement in close collaboration with UCB governance partners.
    • Partner with Medical Leaders in nPVU to deliver a value-to-impact framework across therapy areas via medical engagement plans, 4As, MSL engagement model, Medical Launch / Medical PVBP frameworks, Med Ed strategic frameworks, Medical continuous learning, etc.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Doctorate (MD, PhD, PharmD).
    • Minimum of 7 years in regional/global setting with Field medical experience as MSL and/or Field medical manager.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong leadership and management skills, preferably with experience in matrixed project management (e.g., metrics/KPIs).
    • Ambition for Process Improvement: Demonstrates the ambition to enhance processes and ways of working, fostering an agile and collaborative culture.
    • Possesses leadership skills to influence teams and individuals within a matrixed environment.
    • Proficient in negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving.
    • Ability to translate scientific and clinical data into value propositions for various stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated strength in strategic medical planning and tactical plan development.
    • Knowledge of medical governance and compliance practices.
