    Senior Electrical Controls Engineer I

    Role Summary

    The Senior Electrical Controls Engineer I is responsible for working independently through highly complex projects with no supervision. The engineer will be the technical voice of their discipline and responsible for mentoring and strategic, scalable designs for control systems used on various types of machinery. The employee must have extensive experience with advanced motion control, heat and pressure regulation, and data logging. The employee must be comfortable instructing and assisting less experienced engineers with the critical competencies of the electrical engineers role.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Control Cabinet Design
    • Create control panel designs in AutoCAD Electrical to be built in Beckwoods internal panel shop.
    • Ensure electrical designs are compliant with UL 508A.
    • Design safety circuits compliant with ISO
    • Monitor the budget to keep the design within the quoted guidelines.
    • Create Controls Approval documents for review and sign-off by the customer.
    • Adapt to occasional customer requirements on hardware.
    • Programming
    • Develop PLC programs using several different platforms, primarily Allen Bradley.
    • Design intuitive and consistent HMIs using Aveva Edge and AB Panel View.
    • Create motion control programs using Delta RMC Tools and Yaskawa MotionWorks.
    • Develop standard programming practices.
    • Startup and Testing
    • Provide expert advice and help on in-house startups.
    • Occasionally assist with on-site commissioning or training.
    • Help lower-level engineers test sub-system performance, such as heaters, load cells, or third-party equipment.
    • Coach engineers on how to change systems rapidly to meet customer needs.
    • Design Review and Programming Assistance
    • Proof cabinet designs created by less experienced engineers or in peer review.
    • Share and communicate examples of schematics with other engineers.
    • Make sure all criteria are met by comparing specifications to design, as needed.
    • Review and approve major electrical design decisions for the company.
    • Provides technical and industry expertise internally and to our customers regarding electrical design.
    • Communication
    • Work with internal electrical shop leads during the start-up of new projects.
    • Keep management informed of project progress.
    • Meet with the customer to line out details of control plans and sequencing.
    • Communicate with estimating and sales on potential projects.
    • Collaborate closely with the Electrical Engineering Supervisor to implement standards and provide feedback and updates on lower-level engineers' capabilities and gaps.
    • Sales
    • Participates in design reviews with the customer as needed.
    • Helps the customer and/or supplier shape their products or applications.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in a technical field, most commonly Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
    • 10-12 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a bachelors degree
    • 12-14 years of industry experience without a bachelors degree
