    JOB DESCRIPTION
    The Workforce Development Specialist will assist in designing and promoting successful employment of consumers and family members in the public mental health system in Monterey County.

    COMPENSATION
    $ $39.78 per hour. Non-exempt; 40 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. Compensation based on education and experience.

    Program Director.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Required: Two years' experience working with adults with serious mental illness or with substance abuse problems in a social rehabilitation program; previously demonstrated experience working in the field of employment services and working with persons from diverse backgrounds with significant barriers to employment. Excellent English oral and written communication skills; and ability to work with a culturally diverse team; knowledge of community resources.
    Drivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier.
    Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    Preferred: Bachelor's degree or master's degree in related field. Bilingual in Spanish.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Workforce Development Specialist will assist with the following duties:
    • Provide monthly vocational support groups to develop skills and provide employment support for consumers/ family members working in the public mental health system.
    • Collaborate with other community agencies to provide support, information, trainings for supervisors, consumers and family members on areas such as benefit counseling.
    • Assist in recruitment and training for positions targeted for consumers and family members within Interim.
    • Under the guidance of the HR Manager (to ensure compliance with Interim policies and state/federal labor laws), conduct the new hire processing and orientation of applicants selected for Interim consumer positions; reviewing all new hire paperwork to make sure it is accurately completed before submitting to HR.
    • Conduct communication, orientation and ensure the completion of required documentation for all Interim Volunteers.
    • Develop/utilize appropriate trainings designed to improve job skills in the areas of mental health recovery and social rehabilitation. Trainings may be provided to persons already employed or consumers or family members who are interested in becoming employed in the public mental health system.
    • Work with consumers and family members working in public mental health system to enhance job retention. Individual supports may include job coaching, negotiating reasonable accommodations, referrals to CCCIL for benefits counseling, and employment counseling.
    • Identify appropriate education and training opportunities to facilitate advancement on career ladders. Work with employees to access available tuition reimbursement programs, stipends, and scholarships, loan forgiveness programs.
    • Identify and evaluate number and type of positions targeted to consumers and family members working in private non-profit and public mental health system.
    • Work with public mental health system and allied non-profits to identify and develop other positions that may be targeted to consumers and family members.
    • Assist in maintaining accurate record keeping. Examples include program statistics, employee records and outcome measures.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, climbing stairs. Capable of the following intermittent activities: lifting 25 pounds or more and bending in the performance of infrequently performed office duties.
