    About the Role
    The Director of Battery Storage will be tasked with building the BESS function within Nova. The role will own the ultimate responsibility for site identification and acquisition, permitting, interconnection, and development strategy.

    The Director will engage with a team of subject matter experts who will provide support for specific deliverables such as real-estate, permitting, cost estimates, commercial strategy and interconnection process navigation.

    This is a ground-up opportunity to build a new division in a fast-growing development company.
    Collaborate to expand on and lead Nova's strategic ambitions for the growth of the BESS portfolio.

    Collaborate with Nova permitting and real estate functions to identify and acquire project sites to then bring them through due diligence.


    Project development:
    lead the strategy to manage the project pipeline, establishing priorities and schedules to execute on milestone deliverables.

    Risk management:

    collaborate with the broader Nova team to uncover and mitigate real estate, permitting, interconnection, finance and EPC risks for ultimately a portfolio of projects.


    Policy:
    assist in monitoring policy changes that potentially impact BESS value in targeted regions.

    Project management:
    problem solving site, permit, and technology issues with internal experts and external stakeholders.

    Interconnection:
    Work with the Transmission team to identify and quantify the requirements, key decision dates, and other risks to inform decision making for the respective project region

    Approvals:

    Lead the approval process in front of the Investment Committee for complex decisions to advance the development of projects.


    This is a hybrid role based in Chicago with the expectation to be in our downtown office 3-days a week.

    This role will require up to 35% travel to project sites.

    About You

    2+ years of experience with battery development company and 5+ years of renewable industry development experience.
    Have had full project lifecycle experience in the completion of power generation projects from greenfield site origination through NTP.
    Have a good understanding of the transmission interconnection process in multiple RTO's
    Strong understanding of the BESS procurement landscape.
    Experience working on the completion of the following agreement types:
    Site lease or purchase agreements
    Contracting 3rd party studies and deliverables from environmental and engineering consultants
    Site Plan and Building Permit approvals
    Interconnection agreements
    Creative thinker who can collaborate well with a broader team and lead the buildout of a business.
    Ability to travel up to 35%
