    Description

    SUMMARY
    Provide safe transportation for families in the shelter using the shelter van. Coordinate transportation schedule with families and other shelter staff. Responsible for overseeing and scheduling routine maintenance and cleanliness of van.


    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Drive shelter residents to appointments, stores, job search and to view potential housing in agency van.

    Transport donations and shelter supplies.

    Coordinate rides/transportation schedule with shelter residents and staff.

    Follow and enforce van transportation and safety rules

    • Follow all Commonwealth of Massachusetts driving laws.
    Maintain written driving log.

    • Oversee and schedule routine maintenance of the van; maintain repair log.
    • Maintain cleanliness of the van
    Assist with light maintenance of the shelter, including putting supplies away, cleaning rooms, small repairs.

    Assist with room preparation for new residents.

    Attend staff and agency meetings and training when schedule allows.

    Provide shelter/office coverage if necessary, write shelter log notes when needed

    Assist with new resident orientations.

    Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work.

    Attend & participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas.

    Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements.

    Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures.

    Other duties as assigned.


    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
    Valid Massachusetts driver's license.

    Good driving record

    Good interpersonal skills, flexible

    Able to follow driving directions.

    Able to work independently.

    Must obtain and maintain CPR 1st Aid Certification.


    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
    Directly reports to Willis House Shelter Director

    Indirectly reports to Division Director of Family Emergency Services.

    Direct reports of this position are none.

    Indirect reports of this position are none.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Able to drive an 11-passenger van. .

    Able to remove snow/ice from the van.

    Able to carry donations, bags and boxes up to 25 lbs.

    Able to ascend and descend sta irs.


    WORKING CONDITIONS


    As part of the responsibilities of this position, the Program Specialist/Van Driver/Program Support will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.

    A successful background check is required.
