    Hospice

    Massage Therapist

    0.5 FTE, 20 Hours per Pay Period

    Shifts: 8:00-4:30 pm

    Position Overview:

    The Hospice Massage Therapist provides end of life massage therapy service under the supervision of the Hospice Director and direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager, according to the individualized care of plan.

    The Hospice Massage Therapist caregiver provides patient focused comfort through massage therapy interventions to assist with alleviating symptoms of anxiety, depression, isolation, agitation, restlessness, sleeplessness, pain, muscle tension, circulation, stiffness, limited mobility, relaxation, and overall comfort.


    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Assesses referral/patient for appropriate medical indication for services and performs assessment to determine effectiveness of therapy.
    • Treats patient to relieve symptoms and provide relaxation and comfort.
    • Maintains necessary records; clinical notes, problem charting, coordination notes, which will be incorporated into the patient's clinical record.
    • Performs direct client care and evidence-based practice in a safe, ethical, and legal manner.
    • Performs all duties within the scope of the massage therapy practice guidelines.
    • Develops and revises treatment intervention based on the initial assessment, continual reassessment of client needs, client history, diagnosis, expected outcomes, and client goals.
    • Is accountable to productivity and personal and professional growth. Demonstrates good judgment in contraindications to massage.
    • Evaluates client response to treatment, measures change and development, shares findings and makes appropriate recommendations and referrals.
    • Works in partnership with team members of Hospice Interdisciplinary Group (IDG).
    • Maintains patient and organizational confidentiality at all times.
    • Performs duties in accordance with departmental productivity standards. Independent in using time wisely.
    • Promotes service excellence with client scheduling and accommodation with appointments. Responds positively to changes in the schedule and site of massage therapy services. Uses unscheduled time to develop programs, complete projects or assist the department as needed. Promotes the appropriate utilization of resources.
    • Follows infection control guidelines and maintaining overall sanitation and cleanliness of equipment and work area.
    • Continually works to gain better understanding of workflow of the department and uses knowledge base to analyze department processes and makes changes to improve efficiencies.
    • Ongoing education and understanding of Continuous System Improvements (CSI) and supports Leaders Standard Work (LSW).
    • Works effectively as a care giver.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on facility need and requirements.

    Essential Skills and Experience:
    Certificate of graduation from an accredited massage therapy program with a minimum of 500 hours. Valid Drivers License. CPR Certification. Current national certification or must receive within one year of employment.


    Nonessential Skills and Experience:
    Member of the American Massage Therapy Association or Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals. Certificate of professional liability insurance preferred, but not required.
