    Job Description Quality Management:
    Facilitates timely reporting Rapid Quality Reporting System
    Examines medical and pathology records to report all malignant or neoplastic diseases diagnosed and/or treated at this institution

    Abstracting:
    Compile and report data from all NMHS medical facilities that treat patients
    Examine accuracy and consistency of data
    Responsible for maintaining accurate and current databases of cancer information that are used to research cancer preventative and treatment methods
    Works with physicians and cancer committee leaderships to provide requested data elements.
    Ensure adherence with program standardization by keeping current with ever-changing program rules and regulations related to the cancer program
    Accountable for following the standards of Commission on Cancer (CoC), Standards for Oncology Register Entry (STORE), American Joint Committee on Cancer (Manual for Staging), Collaborative Staging Manual and Coding Instructions, International Classification of Disease Oncology (ICDO), Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End results (SEER), Extent of DiseaseReview:
    Works collaboratively with physician offices to obtain complete records
    Daily contact with registry patients to track progress
    Follow-up performed throughout the life of the patient

    Coordinates data for statistical reviewService:
    Actively participates in and supports departmental and organizational quality initiatives and goals
    Identifies process improvement opportunities to enhance department operations, improve patient satisfaction, and to achieve excellence in patient care
    Work closely with physicians, administrators, researchers, and health care planners to provide support for cancer program development
    Attends Medical Staff meetings to provide updates to MDs regarding all areas of responsibility as necessary.
    Serves as a valuable resource for cancer information while insuring patient confidentiality.

    Assists with coordination of:
    Committee meetings
    Weekly conferences

    Annual accreditation surveysEducation:
    Completes continuing education required to obtain certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (as mandated by the Commission on Cancer)
    Associates Degree in a health-related field, preferred
    Completion of Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II or equivalent with a minimum of a grade of C, required
    Knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills, required
    Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPointJob Knowledge:


    Eligibility Routes for Certification:
    A) Associates Degree or equivalent (60 credit hrs.), completion of an NCRA-Accredited Formal Education Degree Program, 160 hr. practicum in a CTR-staffed cancer registry
    B) Associates Degree or equivalent (60 credit hrs.), completion of an NCRA-Accredited Formal Education Certificate Program, 160 hr. practicum in a CTR-staffed cancer registry

    C) Associates Degree or equivalent (60 credit hrs.), completion of Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II or equivalent with a minimum grade of C, 1950 hrs.

    (equivalent to 1 yr. full time) experience in the Cancer Registry field
    Knowledge of American College of Surgeons (ACOS) guidelines, required
    Knowledgeable about cancer, cancer staging, cancer treatment, biostatistics, and epidemiology, requiredInteraction with a patient population of adults to geriatrics
