    Job Description

    The Paraprofessional role at Chicago Youth Centers has a profound impact on the community, changing children's lives for the better. This position serves over 3,000 children and families each year.

    Company: Chicago Youth Centers (CYC)

    Compensation: $18 - $19 per hour

    Classification: Full Time; Non-Exempt

    Reports to: Senior Director of Early Childhood Education

    Location: CYC Centro Nuestro Center, 3222 W. Division St, Chicago, IL

    Schedule: 8:30a - 5:00p, Monday - Friday, with varied schedule depending on program needs.

    Purpose

    The Paraprofessional assists in creating a well-organized classroom environment where all children can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resources.

    This role provides additional support in Early Childhood classrooms for pre-school children with moderate to severe disabilities.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide a well-organized, smooth functioning classroom environment where all children can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
    • Engage in positive interactions with other members of the instructional team, including educators, therapists, family members, administrators, and other paraprofessionals.
    • Assist classroom personnel in ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in the classroom.
    • Implement teacher-designed instruction.
    • Assist classroom personnel in meeting the specific needs of children with disabilities included in the classroom activities.
    • Communicate effectively with parents, family members, and other program participants.
    • Collaborate with CPS special educators or Early Intervention providers.

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • At least 1 year of experience working with children.
    • Willingness to attend monthly training sessions offsite.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as strong communication skills.
    • Able to travel to various sites.
