    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This is routing work involving the responsibility for the efficient, economic and palatable preparation and cooking of a variety of foods. Incumbents work under the direct supervision of a Cook Manager and may supervise Food Service Helpers. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES; Prepares and cooks a variety of foods; Uses approved scientific methods of preparation and quantity recipes; Cooks meats and vegetables; Prepares soups and broths; Makes salads, sandwiches, desserts, and a variety of other foods; When directed to do so, plans menus, requisitions food and performs other managerial duties; May on occasion work at steam table; Assists in the serving of meals; May assist in cleaning activities; May assist the Cook Manager in maintaining simple records of food and supplies that are received and used; Performs related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (A) Graduation from High School, GED or Equivalency Diploma and one year of full-time experience in quantity food preparation; or (B) An equivalent combination of education and experience. NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated to meet full-time experience requirements. Proof of education must be presented at time of appointment. APPOINTMENT: Appointments are subject to the approval of the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the approval of the Civil Service Division. Personal interviews shall be scheduled where appropriate.
