    JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides medical oncology services to patients through direct patient care.
    • Specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer and other benign and malignant tumors.
    • Provides physician oversight of chemotherapy administration and consults with other specialists on cancer treatments.
    • May participate in teaching and supervision of students and residents.
    CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Admits, evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and provides consultation to patients of all ages, except as specifically excluded from practice, with all types of cancer and other benign and malignant tumors. Privileges include but are not limited to bone marrow biopsy and interpretation, diagnostic lumbar puncture, oversight of administration of chemotherapeutic agents and biological response modifiers through all therapeutic routes, management and maintenance on indwelling venous access catheters, and therapeutic thoracentesis and paracentesis.
    • Led a multidisciplinary team in Medical Oncology and Hematology to address patients' and their families' physical and psychosocial needs.
    • Provides clinical medical oncologic and hematologic services. The Medical Oncologist is available for inpatient and outpatient consultations in accordance with the bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures of the Medical Staff.
    • Arrange appropriate coverage of patients and consultations when not personally available. Performs procedures and proper follow-up care. Arranges for second opinion consultations and referrals for services unavailable as needed.
    • Provides timely, accurate, and consistent communications with primary care and consulting Physicians.
    • Maintains accurate records on all clinic patients.
    • Interacts positively with patients and staff.
    • Responsible for the fiscal success of the clinical practice of hematology and oncology.
    • Follows all rules, regulations, bylaws, policies, and procedures of the Medical Staff, QNHCH, and QHS.
    • Complies with all professional, clinic, hospital, and corporation-based requirements.
    • Assists in maintaining clinic accreditations, certifications, and licensures, meeting all hospital, corporate, and government policies and regulations for the clinic.
    • Assists in the education of staff.
    • Assists administration in the determination of appropriate staffing and other operational issues.
    • Assisted in the department's quality assurance programs. Participates in quality assurance activities and assists in implementing quality assurance tasks and activities.
    • Maintains clinical expertise by regular participation in continuing medical education programs.
    • Participates directly in seminars, lectures, grand rounds, presentations, and research projects.
    • Takes calls as required.
    • Completes charge tags and documentation in a timely, accurate, legible, and in compliance with hospital guidelines, CMS regulations, and PATH rules.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
    • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
    • Current registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and a current State Controlled Substance license with the State of Hawaii Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Narcotics Enforcement Division (NED).
    • Current board certification in Medical Oncology. If not board certified, board certification must obtain board certification within two (2) years of entrance into the position.
    • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QNHCH medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
    • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, preferred.
    • One (1) year post-residency experience is preferred.
