- Design research approaches for a major portion of research project(s), including background research, experimental design and execution, problem-solving, and writing up for publication.
- Develop new protocols; test and evaluate a variety of approaches.
- Perform complex (lab and/or field) experiments, and maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes; analyze and interpret research data resulting from original procedures and methods.
- Contribute to writing new research proposals and grant applications.
- Lead or participate in multidisciplinary teams across different faculties or schools.
- Prepare periodic progress reports or written reports on all phases of the research project.
- Contribute substantively to the preparation of papers for publication, especially in the results section. May be first or co-author on publications. Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences.
- Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; propose new research directions based on new advances discussed in literature.
- Supervise and train new staff or trainees as needed
- PhD degree in related scientific field and five years of related experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
- Expert level knowledge and skills in field of science related to research project.
- Technical competence with stem cell culture and genetic editing (knockout and overexpression) techniques.
- Strong molecular and cell biology techniques, as well as experience working with mouse and human models.
- Strong general computer skills, experience with databases and scientific applications, and ability to quickly learn and master various computer programs.
- Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
- Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance is essential.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately and record thoroughly.
- Developed project management skills.
- A MD, PhD or equivalent with prior relevant training in immunology or cell biology
- Experience with transgenic murine models
- Experience with flow cytometry and other single-cell analytics
- Experience with immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy.
- Must be technically rigorous, highly organized, and have demonstrated excellence, innovation and productivity in research.
- Able to work independently and function effectively as part of a team of physicians, students, postdoctoral fellows, and laboratory and animal technicians and staff.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative group including scientists, data analysts, clinical research professionals, and academic physicians.
determining appropriate experiments for answering scientific questions, designing and conducting novel or complex experiments, interpreting results independently and planning next experiments, generating and modifying standard operative procedures, developing and testing new methods, keeping apprised of latest relevant scientific literature, drafting complete scientific manuscripts and major portions of grant applications, and training junior laboratory members and trainees.
A background in immunology and/or cell biology and experience with murine models is desirable.
The candidate will support the preparation of various protocols, proposals, progress, and final reports and be expected to make scientific and written contributions to justify first or co-authorship on manuscripts for publication and abstracts for professional presentation, with the work being reviewed by the PI or faculty.
They will present ongoing work and findings to colleagues in internal and external research settings through oral platform and poster presentations and complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.
It is expected that the Research Scientist will help oversee the guidance of postdoctoral scholars, graduate, and undergraduate students in the laboratory.
