Godot C# Game Programmer for Strategic/Tactical PC Game - Norfolk, VA
2 days ago

Job description
Company: ThinkByte Studio LLC
Location: Norfolk / Hampton Roads, VA (Hybrid – local applicants only)
Job Type: Part-time
Compensation: Monthly Compensation or Structured Net Revenue Share (details below)
About the Project
We are developing The Glorious Cause, a hex-based, turn-based strategic and tactical wargame set during the American Revolution.
This project combines battlefield-level tactical combat, long-term campaign systems, and a sandbox experience, something never done in a fully integrated way for this conflict.
We recently launched our playable demo on Steam and received over 200 wishlists within the first 24 hours. Growth has continued steadily, and momentum is building.
Our objective is to reach Early Access ahead of Steam's 250th Anniversary celebration of the American Revolution in July, positioning the title as one of the few serious Revolutionary War strategy games on the platform.
This is not a hobby project.
This is a commercial strategy title with long-term expansion plans.
Technical Stack
- Godot Engine
- C# (primary scripting language)
- Visual Studio Code
- Custom hex-based tactical architecture
- Custom combat, morale, and AI systems
Current Game Systems (Already Built)
- Custom hex-based turn combat system
- Historically accurate Order of Battle framework
- Realistic morale, organization, and health systems
- Dynamic battlefield smoke affecting visibility
- Fog of War and line-of-sight systems
- A Sufficient AI
Our next release will be:
Version 0.3.5 introduces a 2.5D visual overhaul.
Version 0.4.0 expands unit types and introduces the Battle of Princeton.
The upcoming 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution presents a strategic launch window. Steam is expected to feature relevant historical titles, and we believe aligning our Early Access release with this event could meaningfully amplify discovery, conversion, and early-stage revenue growth.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking a Godot C# programmer based in the Hampton Roads area to join as a long-term technical partner.
This is not a short-term contract role.
We are building toward Early Access and beyond.
You must be comfortable meeting in person several times per week for planning and system reviews. Most development work can be performed remotely.
Required Skills
- Strong experience with Godot (C# preferred)
- Comfortable working in Visual Studio Code
- Experience with turn-based systems and state management
- Ability to design and own gameplay systems
- Clean, structured architecture mindset
- Git or version control experience
- Ability to pick up where our lead programmer left off
Highly Desirable Experience
- AI behavior systems
- Pathfinding and movement logic
- Fog of war implementation
- Turn management frameworks
- Data-driven design systems
- Optimization for large tactical maps
- Experience with strategy or wargame mechanics
Passion for strategy games is essential, and a interest in military history or the American Revolution is a major plus.
Compensation Structure
This is a compensated position.
Compensation includes one of two options you can choose:
- A Pay Per Hour Rate, the rate would depend on your experience and skill.
Or a Net Revenue Split Model which would include
- Monthly compensation derived from current Patreon revenue
- Structured net revenue share participation in game income
- Optional ownership participation in the game itself
A formal written agreement with vesting structure will be implemented to protect all parties.
This is a performance-aligned model, you share directly in the success of the game.
We are open to discussing:
- Revenue percentage participation
- Long-term collaboration across multiple releases
- Ownership participation for the right long-term partner
What I Handle (Founder Responsibilities)
- Game design and historical research
- Roadmap and milestone planning
- Steam publishing and marketing
- Social media and Patreon community growth
- Financial management
- Production coordination
- Audio development
We are looking for a technical partner who wants to help scale and stabilize the project as we approach Early Access.
Ideal Candidate Profile
You are someone who:
- Thinks architecturally, not just feature-by-feature
- Enjoys building systems that scale
- Understands strategy game depth
- Wants long-term upside rather than short-term contract income
- Is excited by the opportunity to build something meaningful for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution
To Apply
Please include:
- Your Godot experience (C# preferred)
- GitHub or past projects (playable builds ideal)
- Weekly availability
- Your thoughts on revenue share structure
- Why strategy or historical games interest you
Serious inquiries only.
We are building for long-term impact in the strategy genre.
