Position Description:
This position generally receives technical direction from the tool room supervisor, tool room lead person, or a tool and die maker. Plans, constructs and repairs a variety of ordinary tools, jigs, gauges, fixtures, special machines, etc. to close tolerances. Work will include performing production machining and maintenance work as needed
Essential Functions:
- Performs highly skilled fitting, adjusting, and timing of the above items.
- Will perform difficult development work.
- Selects allowances and devises mechanisms to be used.
- Has the ability to construct tools where no design is available.
- Can perform any type of tool room operation.
- Works with complex drawings and sketches and has a basic knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Can perform production machining and maintenance work as needed.
- Working with tight tolerances, with high accuracy, and the use of problem-solving skills.
Requirements:
- Requires a high school diploma
- Not required but added bonus two-year technical degree/certification
- Not required but added bonus two years of experience as a tool room machinist
- Requires a thorough knowledge of advanced shop mathematics, inspection processes, and precision measuring instruments
- Requires a high degree of experience and trade skill
- Requires a thorough knowledge of machine shop practices and production methods
- Requires additional technical, design, and/or engineering courses
Lou-Rich Training Requirements:
- Applicable training will be completed by following the syllabi (Human Resources, Safety, IFS - Timeclock, IFS - Navigation, ISO) for each new hire and that will be verified by the Employee Orientation & Job Qualification form within the first 60 days of employment.
- Applicable training will be completed by following the Tool Room Training Matrix form (F Effectiveness of training guidelines will be determined by employee knowledge and demonstration of learned concepts. Additional training after the first several weeks of on-the-job training will be determined by the Supervisor in preparation to operate on their own as needed. Any follow up training will be evaluated and provided at the 60-day review or as deemed necessary for the position.
