    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    We are searching for a Research and Development Manager to join a dynamic team that is at the center of nuclear weapons development and leading change to the ways they are realized. The selected candidate will provide leadership and oversight of organization 7645, ND Electronics Part Program (EPP). This is an exciting opportunity to develop and apply your leadership capabilities as the department is deeply engaged in transforming our business model while also delivering on current commitments. You will lead a team of engineers, technologists, and professional staff to ensure commercial electronic parts are utilized in a reliable, predictable, and repeatable manner.

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Execute and evolve the EPP strategy to reliably integrate commercial electronics parts for current systems while preparing for future system needs.
    • Closely partner with peer team managers, next level assembly managers, and respective governance boards to support efficient requirements and/or process development, integration, and maintenance.
    • Closely partner with the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) to jointly leverage resources to accomplish the EPP strategy, including but not limited to, ensuring thorough technical characterization of the selected parts and supply chain analysis.
    • Actively manage the science and technology portfolio to prepare the program for future technologies, support advanced and exploratory systems, and ensure the operations, capability and technical experts who work within the Electronic Parts Program are setup for enduring success.
    • Interface with the Sandia Program Offices and NNSA to maintain a sustainable program.
    • Oversee external collaborations with manufacturers and peer agencies.
    • Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or other relevant discipline plus eight years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
    • Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
    • Active DOE Q-level security clearance and ability to obtain Sigma 15 level access.
    • Experience leading technical operations to meet customer requirements (cost, schedule, and performance).

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • 2 or more years of demonstrated leadership experience
    • 4 or more years' experience with nuclear weapons programs throughout the lifecycle, from product development through product qualification
    • Proven interpersonal skills in developing trusting relationships among peers, staff, management, and customers
    • Experience negotiating and executing to requirements for research and or development projects
    • Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead experience
    • Experience leading activity level work
    • Experience leading significant organizational change
    • Experience working within NNSA Nuclear Weapons Complex including SNL systems and/or component organizations, Kansas City National Security Campus, or Sandia Production
    • Experience in test and evaluation of electronics

    About Our Team:

    The High-reliability Electronic Components group is responsible for the specification, characterization, assurance, production, and procurement of high reliability electronic products for ND programs and other national security customers. The group is composed of talented staff who specialize in both custom and commercial products, and is home to the Electronic Parts Program, an integrated activity that identifies the future technology needs of our customers and leads the technical, supply chain and requirements efforts needed to ensure our design partners can use them with confidence. The group is growing and changing the paradigm for electronic part use in ND systems. We are relentlessly focused on improving our systems, culture, structure, processes, and people to achieve world-class performance in our field.

    Within this group, the ND Electronic Parts Program Department has a team of technical, supply chain, and program leads that develop and manage the program. We execute and maintain EPP processes and requirements; liaise with advanced and exploratory, future systems, and our technical S&T partners to develop and advance the EPP portfolio; and lead the strategy for the EPP.
