    AFVN Second Harvest of the Big Bend SNAP Access Coor.


    In recognizing the complexity of food insecurity, Second Harvest of the Big Bend (SHBB) has a proven track record working with a variety of partners in its 16 -county service area to ensure access to nutritious food for those struggling with hunger, as well as to help make progress toward ending hunger.

    SHBB leads the community with over 135 partner agencies.

    This VISTA Project seeks to create a strong community of learning, identifying best practices, and accelerating SNAP Application Assistance to food-insecure neighbors throughout SHBB's 1- county service area in North Florida on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

    Member Duties :

    The AmeriCorps VISTA will develop, establish and create a sustainable SNAP Application Assistance program for neighbors struggling with food security.

    The VISTA will develop & provide related trainings for partner agencies, as well as recruiting, training, & facilitating community volunteers to also conduct screenings & administer application assistance.

    The VISTA will work with SHBB to enhance community awareness and accessibility of the utilization of benefits.

    The member will also research and expand the use of SNAP benefits within each of the 16 counties that are served by SHBB.
