The Quality Assurance Engineer reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.
This position requires a keen understanding of quality systems and operations, with a strong background in defense related prime contractor requirements.
A high level of technical, organizational, and communication skills is required. The Quality Assurance Engineer shall ensure that product quality in assigned areas is maintained at or above desired. Continuous Improvement tools shall be used to drive ongoing improvement to product and business process.Primary Responsibilities:
Provide Quality Engineering support to assigned products/areas
Perform quality readiness functions on customer contracts
Develop quality planning and procedures
Develop and enhance non-conforming material control system
Function as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned portions of overall QMS
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or GED is required
Bachelor degree in a technical or management field is preferred
A minimum of five (5) yrs experience with quality engineering functions OR
A minimum of two (2) yrs practical experience in quality assurance and successful completion of a Quality certification program (e.g.
– ASQ CQT or CQE certification)High level of computer proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software
Working knowledge of ISO and other global quality specifications (e.g. – AS9100, ISO-9001, ISO-13485, IATF 16949, etc)
Good understanding and ability to apply statistical techniques
Visual acuity equal to Jaeger 1 minimum, either corrected or uncorrected
Special Tasks and Focus Areas:
Provide Quality Engineering support to assigned products/areas
Develop statistical techniques and chart trends for manufactured product
Develop First Article Inspections Reports (FAIR), and plans
Develop quality assurance processes in support of AS9100 requirements
Review and revise inspections procedures (including data sheets)
Develop test methods and inspection techniques
Initiate purchase orders for outside special testing services
Complete customer survey and evaluation forms for QA related sections
Interact with other departments to develop quality standards
Develop and revise company operating procedures as needed
Perform process and stamp control audits
Prepare, review, and approve submissions to Customers (e.g. – SSR, VRMR, etc)
Lead and/or assist during customer quality audits
Represent Quality Assurance during internal audits
Provide technical training to personnel
Attend job start-up and shut-down meetings
Perform quality readiness functions on customer contracts
Review incoming customer contracts (new and existing programs) to identify potential issues
Review/revise quality procedures for adequacy to REDAR and customer requirements (including data sheets)
Review product specifications to identify potential issues impacting our ability to comply
Apply purchase order provisions to requisitions
Review and approve suppliers for Approved Vendors List (AVL) status
Develop receiving characteristics and quick inspections
Review and approve Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR) and responses
Develop and enhance non-conforming material control system
Generate and enhance systems for tracking and evaluating product discrepancies
Develop systems for handling and tracking customer returns
Coordinate and respond to customer corrective action requests
Issue, track, and approve Quality Assurance corrective actions
Lead Non-Conformance Review Board (NCRB) meetings
Analyze and report on Quality Assurance databases
Track QA-related discrepancies and escapes
Develop, enhance, and maintain the calibration database system
Determine the set-up of calibrations cycles for new and existing measurement equipment
Review out of tolerance conditions for product quality impact
Determine QA department equipment needs, and requirements
Function as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned portions of overall QMS
Fully understand AS9100 and Customer requirement/expectations
Monitor key metrics for assigned processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement improvement actions
Revise documentation as needed
Train employees in new/revised processes
