    Project Overview:

    Located in Southeastern Washington State, on the Hanford reservation, The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The WTP project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOEs most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres with four major nuclear facilities Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

    Responsibilities:

    + Originate and check complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, material requisitions.

    + Reviews and coordinates technical documents with/from other designers, engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction.

    + Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.

    + Manage specifically assigned project activities.

    + Assist in constructability reviews.

    + Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports

    + Act as a mentor or coach for subordinate engineers and designers.

    + Schedule and coordinate off-project review requirements for engineering deliverables.

    + Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with client, suppliers, construction, etc.

    Qualification Education:

    + Bachelors Degree in structural/civil engineering from an accredited university or college, and a minimum of 6 years progressive-related experience.

    + Passed the Engineer in Training (EIT) exam.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Prior experience working in a Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment.

    + Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.

    + Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or SAP 2000.

    + Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.

    + Experience with CADD applications, such as MicroStation or AutoCad.

    + Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures.

    + Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.

    + Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.

    + Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.

    + Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
