- Performs all listed duties to support technical lab staff:
- Monitoring consumable reagent and preparing new reagents.
- Creates patient slides for all manual and automatic staining procedures to be done on specimens that are processed by technical staff.
- Performs manual cover slipping technique of all stained per departmental standard operating procedures.
- Performs routine H/E staining and specialized staining utilizing the Nexus Special Stainer and Benchmark Ultra.
- Reviews all completed cases for accuracy and delivers to appropriate physician.
- Accepts inventory items according to departmental protocol.
- Records/documents all shipments
- Maintains the department physical appearance to ensure safety and enhance workflow:
- Replenishes daily consumable items as needed or at the end of shift. (e.g., plastic test tubes, gauzes, pipette tips, slides, etc.)
- Notifies supervisor or designee of inventory needs.
- Maintains a clean/disinfected laboratory environment.
- Performs quality control measures as set forth by departmental standard operating procedures:
- Records/documents temperature of routine histology equipment.
- Performs/documents all incoming inventory shipments in designated log.
- Demonstrates quality customer service through positive interaction which meets the needs of co-workers, clients, and vendors.
- Adheres to all regulatory, institutional, and departmental policies to ensure laboratory accreditation.
- Participates in the validation of laboratory methods and procedures to meet the changing health care needs of our patients.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the manager to support the department mission of service to patients and to provide quality diagnostic information.
- Adheres to all regulatory and laboratory safety policies (OSHA) to provide a safe and secure environment for fellow employees.
- Bachelors degree in the chemical, physical, or biology science
- +1 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred
- Works under ASCP certified technician
- Not required.
- Working experience with laboratory information systems.
- Ability to ambulate throughout the lab.
- Personal computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a diverse patient population and all levels of personnel.
