Overview
Marion Milling is looking for its second full-time member and additional co-founder. Our mission is to bring the world of regionally grown heirloom grains and stone-milled flour to food businesses and home bakers. We think that working directly with local farmers to source high-quality grains and minimally processing these grains into flour is healthy for humans and the planet. You will be our ambassador to food businesses and retailers throughout the Midwest - from bakeries to distilleries to tortillerias to specialty grocers - working to ensure these customers are happy and growing with us.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
● Source new business for Marion Milling through cold and warm outreach
● Identify leads and potential customers
● Keep an up-to-date sales pipeline and CRM
● Maintain existing accounts, grow new business within them, and provide ongoing
customer support
● Represent Marion Milling in the industry and to the public as a thought leader in grain and
flour
● Work with customers to better understand their product needs
● Develop sales goals and strategic plans to reach targets
● Collaborate on marketing strategies and educational materials
● Collaborate on operations and logistics
● Work with customers to maintain up-to-date invoice payments
● Stay current on grain, flour, and baking trends
● The Director of Sales is expected to work independently and demonstrate strong
decision-making skills
● Other duties as needed or required
Supervision Received
● Weekly check-in at the milling space for at least an hour to coordinate sales activities
● Monthly sales review call with owners/investors to evaluate progress
● Check-ins and collaboration via Slack throughout the day
Qualifications and Skills
REQUIRED
● Self-motivated and driven
● Strong verbal and written communication skills
● Strong independent decision-making skills
● An organized approach to logging and tracking sales
● Skill in managing large geographical territory with excellent ability to route and schedule
calls to maximize face-to-face sales opportunities.
● Utilize phone and video calls to shorten the sales cycle and stay in touch
● Occasional travel is required
PREFERRED
● Experience with at least one sales CRM (e.g. Pipedrive, Salesforce, or other)
● Experience with building and scaling a food manufacturing business
● Strong existing network in food & beverage
● Experience in one of: baking, brewing, distilling
● Familiarity with the local grain and flour movement
