    Job SummaryThe Communications Manager is a highly collaborative role, working across all departments including top leadership, Board, and external partners to strengthen and build awareness of the Chamber and LEAD San Diego.

    Creates, organizes, plans, and implements effective communications, collateral, and public relations activities to consistently articulate the Chambers and LEADs mission.


    Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and assist in setting and evaluating the overall communications strategy and activities for the Chamber & LEAD.Write and distribute news releases; serve as primary point of contact for all media inquiries, proactively pitch Chamber & LEAD news, coordinate interviews and arrange press events as needed.

    Develop and implement social media strategy and content across a variety of social media platforms for the Chamber & LEAD with a high value on audience engagement.

    Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness around Chamber & LEAD signature events, including delegation trips, Congressional Luncheon, Anniversary Celebration, Visionary Awards, and others.

    Create and lead script development for all Chamber events including signature events, delegation trips, mixers, etc.
    Mentor and oversee Digital Marketing & Communications Coordinator.
    Oversee all social media efforts and advertising with an creative vision for originating engaging on- trend content.
    Coordinate website maintenance, manage content updates and other special website projects.

    Prepare remarks for President & CEO, and other staff members and/or board members as necessary, as it relates to public remarks, media interviews, events, etc.

    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Chambers position on key issues and be able to approve quotes/written materials should executives be unavailable.

    Coordinate activity at both a strategic and tactical level within all Chamber departments to ensure marketing and communications ideas and opportunities are maximized.

    Develop and oversee the content and production of all the Chamber & LEADs e-mail marketing communications and publications, including several monthly and bi-weekly e-newsletters.

    Provide writing and editing support for outbound communication including marketing materials, reports, emails, and member communications.
    Write various articles for internal and external sources as needed.
    Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


    Qualifications and RequirementsBachelors degree in journalism, communications, or related field.4-6 years related experience, previous experience in an agency or communications staff for an elected official a plus.


    Proficiency with Canva, Adobe platforms, Microsoft programs, MailChimp (or similar email marketing platform), and video editing platforms to create engaging social media content.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills are critical.
    Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with all major social media platforms and social media marketing required.

    Knowledge of website content management systems (WordPress preferred) and HTMLUnderstanding of media and public relations (PR) and ability to build and maintain relationships with outside PR sources when needed.

    Proven ability to write articles, press releases and business correspondence.
    Must know AP style guidelines. Writing samples will be required.
    Ability to read and interpret articles and information to produce high-quality and high impact communications.
    Ability to think proactively and develop strategies for communications outreach that support the Chambers positioning.
    Must possess strong proofreading skills and have a strong command of the English language.
